Is this taking product branding too far?

I came across this website http://brandedbranding.mattkirkland.com/process.html and was surprised that people are allowed to offer this. The patterns are branded onto the animals skin while it's on the ranch, then when the skin is turned to leather the pattern is already there and ready for your purse, jacket, etc. Do you think this is unnecessary animal cruelty, or the next logical step in product marketing?

Yes I think that is way too cruel. It's all well and good that they monitor the animals after the fact and such but do they not think they are in pain the whole time they are branding them. I like the other people understand one brand for the purpose of which ones belong to who and that is bad enough and I am sure that hurts them as well...but more than one brand?? How would they feel if it was done to them?? If I knew that was going on with a product I intended to buy I would NOT buy it and I would try and discourage anyone I knew from doing the same.

I agree with you! I mean what really is the point in doing this when they are doing it? I think they can do it after the fact too. I can't understand people sometimes and it seems like it is just the bottom line and the money lineing their pocket just so they can say "authentic"...

Yes, more than one brand, and over a much larger area of the animal's skin. I just think it's unnecessary because patterns can be applied when the product is being constructed.

You bring up a really good point, it's all about money.

That is the most money-grubbing, cruelty to animals to make buck marketing theory I have ever heard. But big business doesn't give a rip about humans, can we really expect them to see their cattle as anything more than their next million?

You're right. It's very sad, but very true.

Animal branding has been something ranches have been doing for years (to tell which animals are there's) it was only a matter of time before someone made money off of it.

Yes, but don't you think that a large brand over much of the animal's body (just for the sake of adding a company's logo or pattern) is unnecessarily adding pain to the animals' lives?

I think this is incredibly cruel, branding, freeze or hot is VERY painful for an animal... all to satisfy fashion.... what are we thinking?

I agree. We should stop and think about how it would feel if we were on the receiving end, but humans are selfish.

I was thinking of a way to brand my company. Now I've found it! Thanks for the link!

Jsteine, maybe you should find someone on eBay who is willing to tattoo your logo on his or her forehead. At least he or she would know the pain was coming. :)

im disgusted by the thought of this " branded branding" its far past unnecessary. id like to see one of these people who actually do this have it happen to them and still think its no big deal.

Me too - that is a great point and I wish they would think about it like that too.

This is very creative, I really have no opinion on the matter. I don't think it right or wrong. It does seem pretty convenient for clothing companies and such. What will they think up next?

This is the cruel way of doing branding. I think people involved in this project are cruel animals working for moeny. But the government who allow to do so is more cruel. will someone check the animals law in US and Asia? and if there is something illegal then please file a complaint on this. Meanwhile you can check Cool new Branding website: http://www.brandcityinc.com

That is just disgusting!! Why would you do that to the poor animal just for making a purse... and why cant they do it after they have already killed the animal so atleast they dont feel the pain... that is just outragious
