yest. i saw in news that a padre of britain has announced that by doing yoga evil resides in you :P they have infact warned the yoga enthusiasts that are in danger of being possessed by the Devil. well yoga is just exercise.... and if exercising is devilish.... then what's next up!! "pay 10$ a week to church or devil will take ya"!! well it shows how much insecure is Christianity about themselves!! instead of being rational... they are being more absurd over it :P

One of the most preposterous suggestion if I have ever heard one. In Sanskrit language, Yoga means to join the body, mind and the spirit in one wavelength of harmony for perfection of our human existence. It involves different exercises to tone the body and the mind and to awaken the inner soul because any disharmony in either the body or mind or soul is detrimental to complete functioning of all the human faculties. It has nothing to do with any religion per se but this form of exercise was first developed and practiced by those who lived in the geographical regions of what we now call India. Since India is predominantly Hindu and the names of the different yoga exercises are in Sanskrit (which is an ancient Hindu language) most people associate yoga with Hinduism. It’s a very ancient form of exercise and has survived till this day coz of its easy applicability and simplicity. Many ancient religions of the orient have some form of similar exercise and the aim of all these exercises is to keep our body fit with natural resources and to keep our mind peaceful and focused. Many Christians are taking up yoga as a form of easy exercise and are getting benefits without having to live with the Satan or converting to Hinduism.

the only reason im relating yoga with hinduism is the fact..... that the Christians are getting insecure against yoga.... and many ppl are shifting to it.... so they must be insecure that it would convert ppl. to hinduism.... as it is the hare rama hare krishna did a lot of conversions!!

Hinduism actually is not a religion.. It is the culture of the people living in India.. Later it became as Hindu religion and I dont know the reason, most probably by origin of other religions, as they wanted to do discrimination and convert people to their religion. Hindu culture is following sanathana dharma.. it mentions that one can get "punya" by helping the need and one can get "paap" by causing harm.. kindly read the article in wikipedia about the Hinduism.. In old time in India there was no religion system.. other religious texts mention about different religions and also mentions that it should not be followed.. but hindu religious texts doesnt mention about any religion.. probably no different religions existed that time.. hindu religious texts mentions god can be reached by different ways.. It doesnt tell that you must do this and you must pray to this god or else you will not reach god.. It mentions that god can be reached without praying also. By doing good things, helping others and not causing harm, God can be reached.. Any person who follows the "sanatana dharma" irrespective of any religion is a Hindu by culture.. Its similar to how the people call bad persons as bad cultured and good as good cultured irrespective of the religion.. So now what do you say about yoga, sanskrit and hinduism? is anything written in bible that if the things which is not mentioned in bible like yoga etc if done, will get devil in them or will god wont forgive them?

well i agree with you.... but the concept of sanatana dharma is basically... that hinduism is the first religion to exist!! and as far as yoga is considered... well the teachers preach hinduism... it has different forms... probably thats what is mixing the thing up!!

This is really hillarious! I mean the Padre in question must have once dated a girl who then ran away from him with a yoga instructor, which probably gives him a deep psychological hatred of Yoga and anything that is associaetd with the stuff. I mean, that's the only reason why this guy is getting up and denouncing an ancient excercise that has been scientifically proven to be good for you as work of the devil. But no, I don't think all Christians are irrational people who dennounce everything as being work of the devil. I mean you do have a few weak minded clowns who will believe in every charlaton who blames their own incompetence on the devil. So, let's not go down the My God is BIgger than Your God because, hey, the guys who go down that route usually have very little knowledge of God.

This is sad yet amusing. I can't believe that the church is actually saying that. It's bull. They are so absurd and childish. It doesn't mean that if you do yoga you're going to stop going to church.

Hi LaHire, It's very clear that this priest doesn't know what he is talking about, but remember he is only one. Many Christians practice yoga, and I'm sure most of them don't take his words seriously. I respect Hinduism as I respect all other religions. We must learn to live together in peace. Blessings.

This is the silliest thing I have heard for a while. Maybe they are getting desperate for followers. In the past they used to try and put the fear of the devil in followers by saying that anything non Christian was the devil. Do they really think that people will fall for this sort of stuff again? It is more likely to turn people away these days.

Okay... being a Brit I thought I would have heard of this. *shrug* Idiots come in all sorts of shapes, colours and faiths. A link for an American event in the 1990's, giving possible reasons for the call against yoga by conservative Christians. http://www.allspiritfitness.com/library/features/aa041301a.shtml Remember, these are the same morons that think Dungeons and Dragons leads to the occult... their religion is not important, their IQ is. The big one I heard this morning was the bill being put forward to the Synod to force men of the Church (Anglican) to evangelise to Muslims. WTF?! Oh, found it... he's a Catholic and an official exorcist... although this is in The Daily Mail... a paper I wouldn't trust as far as I could flick it with my pinky finger. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1021712/Yoga-horoscopes-lead-posession-Devil-claims-Cardinals-exorcist.html
