What to Wear At Jury Duty

United States

I might be going to Jury Duty soon, and I'm really nervous about it (ahh!) lol. I really wish I didn't have to go. But I figure I can't stop it from happening, so I better make the best of it. One thing I want to know about is what to wear. Should I just dress casually, should I dress up a lot, or should I just wear a nice outfit. Are jeans okay? Maybe I'll wear nice black jeans. What did you guys wear for your jury service? What should I wear?!

I was called to jury duty once and wore black slacks. Several others had on khaki's. I would suggest dressy casual. I don't recall seeing anyone with jeans on and tennis shoes. My case was about a Ford pick up truck that had issues. It was dismissed after a half a day and was I ever happy. I also was scared but had to go. I was called to duty a couple of other times several years ago but was pregnant both times and far along into the pregnancy. I didn't have to go. One other time my mother was very sick and in the hospital and being transferred to a nursing home. I was the primary caretaker so I didn't have to go. Actually the time I did go was an interesting experience. I would do it again.

The questions are asked in general to all the possible juror's. You can answer if you like or say nothing, as I did. I understand about your sleep pattern being disturbed. You'll be fine. It's easy for me to say because I was in your shoes, worried about it all and it was not a difficult time.

Thankfully where I live, I only have to do jury service once. But maybe it'll end up like how it did with you, an interesting experience. But it is going to be tough with my work scedule. I work at night and sleep during the day, and they said I should expect to be in court from 8am-5pm. I hope the case I get will be quik, but with my luck I'll get some huge profile murder or something! x.x That would suck. What kind of things do you have to do to see if they want to pick you? What kind of questions do they ask you.

I am going to be excused from work, already talked to them about it. But I'll be really tired still, because it'll be during the time I usually sleep. They said that they pay gas money too I think, but I am going to ask my dad to drive me and pick me up lol. I don't want to have to deal with all the parking mess. I don't know anything about any cars lol. But I'm just worried I'll make myself look like an idiot during the questions. I'm not the best person to answer questions on the spot lol. Do they ask you the questions in front of a bunch of people?

I thought that I was going to be chosen for jury duty also here recently, but I was never chosen for it and I am so thankful. I do not have any kind of dress clothes to wear for one right now since I have grew out of my old clothes. I would have to try to wear some nice jeans and a nice shirt and nice tennis shoes. That is all that I have to choose from at the moment. I think you can wear anything but shorts and cut off shirts to jury duty.

I actually don't have any shorts, just jeans and skirts lol. And I don't think I have any cut off shirts. =P But I'm going to have to go shopping for a new outfit anyways, all my jeans are too big for me, and I really don't want to wear a belt to jury duty, I hate belts lol.

I once had jury duty but my boss wouldn't release me. I would wear trousers but not jeans. I would try and be smart and neat looking. What fun. How interesting...I hope it's not a boring case.

Actually, in Australia, they can stop you from attending if it will cause a problem for the person to be away from work. It must be hard for people who have a little shop and no-one to open up and run the store while they do jury duty. There must be many instances when people are exempt from jury duty.

no, you shouldnt dress up a lot. wear something that isnt fancy but is appropriate for the office. if all you have is a black pair of jeans and a nice blouse, then wear that. what you are wearing has no impact on if you are picked or not, that will come down to the case and how you answer questions etc. you certainly dont want to look like your going out on a date...you are there to potentially do a very important service for your community, just dress like you are prepared to pay attention and take it seriously. ive been called twice and only had to serve once..thankfully..mostly it is tedious lol!

Sorry, i tmight just be a blonde moment, but could you give me an example of what i should wear please. I'm actually going to have to go shopping for a new outfit because none of my pants fit me now lol. I've lost some weight. So I'm not sure exactly what's appropriate for the office, but doesn't make me look like I'm going on a date x.x What kind of questions do they ask you? Omg, I'm freaking out lol. I bet having to go to jury service isn't easy for someone who is shy (me!) lol. I just want to be ready for this! =P I really hope I don't have to go!

yeah im a hermit myself lol! i hate going shopping and anything having to deal with ppl! just find yourself a pair of black slacks or a knee length skirt and a blouse or sweater, nothing overly bright or garish of course. i wore a pair black slacks with a deep purple t-shirt and a black cardigan to go over it..that way it dressed it up a bit more than just a t-shirt lol! depending on the case..mine was for a settlement about a car accident and medical costs of the victim. i was asked things like "can you remain fair and unbiased without the defendant being present during court proceedings?" "have i been involved in a car accident or someone i know ever been involved in an accident?" mostly its boring lol

lol yeah I buy what i can online =P But I do have to go out sometime. And when I do I never go alone! Me and my friend are going shopping saturday lol. I can't avoid this shopping. None of my jeans/nice pants fit me! lol. They rae too big now, and I don't want to wear a belt at jury duty. I hate belts =P So my friend is going with me to get an outfit that will fit me nicely! =P Wow, those questions are boring...hmm...I would say yes ot the first one, and also yes to the second! lol. I've never been in an addicent, but my sister has twice (neither her fault)

I'd wear black pants and a black cropped jacket. Basic, simple and dull, like jury duty.

i was on jury duty once but it was back in 1993 and i do not remember if they had a dress code and certain things were not allowed like jeans or instance. i know myself and would have dressed neatly and casually , like a casual office type attire. good luck. being on a jury can be very boring and tedious.

I have been called up twice for jury duty when I was working but I never did get picked, I never wanted to go either but now that I am not working I wouldn't mind except the getting up early part...I guess it depends on if you really want to get picked out of the pool, if you went looking all scruffy maybe they wouldn't pick you...I think just nice clean and neat is good...

Thankfully where I live you only have to go to jury service once. But it's still a pain for me because I work nights, and I might be at the court from 8am-5pm! So I don't know when I'm going to sleep that day. I'm going to be SOOO tired if they pick me and I have to go. But I don't want to go there looking all scruffy, I would be too self concious lol. But I will defeniatly dress nice! =) Thank you.

I wore what I wear to work. I think the roomie, who also has a jury summons, is going to wear a shirt that says something like "cut it off." There is a chance that she won't have to worry, there's a person she knows who's trial is about the same time as her summons, so she'd be dismissed if that's the case.

When I was working, I would wear whatever I was wearing to work. Now, since I usually wear jeans, I would wear jeans and a t-shirt. Maybe they wouldn't put me on a jury if they didn't like what I was wearing.

I'd say whatever you wear make sure you're comfortable. Casual always seem to do the trick. You'll be so into the case you probably won't be thinking of what you wore and so will the others especially if its a good case.
