What is the best way to know some new friends?

I have just moved to Bay area and I haven't had a job yet, so I don't have a chance to know new people. Since I know my life would be very dull and dry without having friends. I would be very appreciated that someone can give me some suggestions of knowing friends.

Well I think getting involved in community services or volunteering is a good way to meet people or by just joining s club of something you are interested in, sports,craft or even going to some sort of night classes, I hope you meet some very nice new friends.
