How do people sell items and make money

I decided I would try selling some kid items. and I feel horrible for marking up the price a couple of dollars. However just about everything on my site is the price I paid for it and that is with wholesale prices. I started with higher prices this morning then felt bad, and have been going back hourly lowing the prices. Has anyone else gone through this, suggestions... I now have children's laptops that sell normally for $60.00 for $30.00:-) I'm glad i'm not trying to sell cars.lol
