A friend showed me this message in her inbox:
FYI: The new coke zero contains ASPARTAME which is know to be carcinogenic or cancerous. And FYI, cancer is now the leading cause of death worldwide. So don't drink Coke Zero. And always be a label reader. Please forward to your family and friends.
What do you make of it? is this just a smear campaign? I haven't actually read the label of coke zero though i have drunk it a few times.

As the members above posted, it takes a lot of Aspartame to induce cancer. It would be akin to drinking something like a two dozen cans of diet coke a day - or something like that anyway. Strangely enough, I personally love the flavor of Aspartame! I love it in diet coke and in Astro fat-free yogurt. It just provides this crisp, clean aftertaste that I really enjoy. So your mouth isn't all sticky and slimy like it would be in, say, regular coke. That's just my personal feel anyway. Heh. From what I gather, anything and everything causes cancer nowadays if taken in huge enough doses. In fact, you can be the most healthy person out there and still get cancer. It's sad really. Life works in mysterious ways. So enjoy what you love while you can!

Every diet soda you can find has aspartame in it. To take one and start rumours about it would seem like a smear campaign. It takes a whole lot of aspartame to make someone sick and since it is 1000 times sweeter than sugar it doesn't take much to sweeten a whole bottle of soda.
I get a whole lot of those kind of emails too. Everyone forwards the bad news. LOL

I have heard this about Coke Zero, but all of the Diet Sodas have aspartame in them, so if they were really dangerous there would be a larger campaign to make them change the ingrediants. But when you really look at it, what can you eat or drink anymore that might really be safe and good for everyone? I tend to think it is a matter of personal choice for sure.

Well to be fair with Coke, try looking into Pepsi version of their sugar free and it would surprise you that they too uses aspartame to sweeten their "no sugar" version of their softdrink.
So I guess it should not be only coke zero they should be pointing their fingers too but to their competitor who sells the same kind of no sugar softdrink.

Actually the fact that its carcenogenic has only been proven in lab mice, and has never been tested on humans. Aspartame is the artificial sweetener that you see in the pink pack at diners. Its in diet coke, diet sprite, basically all of the diet drinks out there. But then again nowadays what dosent cause cancer?

Thank God I stop drinking softdrinks, coffee and other unhealthy beverage three years ago so I won't worry what the hell is aspartame and if coke zero can cause cancer or something.
The best thing you can do is avoid drinking and eating unhealthy food and drinks so that you will be spared from further health troubles. As the old adage goes: It is better safe than sorry.

I think Tab used to cause cancer. That was the rumor anyway. I think they banned TAB in the US or at least I hope they did.

You would probably have to drink so much of that to get cancer the average person couldnt do it. They test lab rats by injecting them with these produts in like 1,000 times the average dose of what the person would drink. I wouldnt be too worried about it, but dont drink too much soda regardless.

Pretty much any commercially produced product you eat, inhale or put on your body is bad for you. There have been many studies on aspartame and yes, I believe it is garbage and will do harm.
I drink water and try to eat as few commercially produced food items as possible. Unfortunately with everything organic being so expensive, I can't go that route.

I have a friend that is in her mid forty and has drank tab soda for years and was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer last week. I think what we eat and drank very much contributes to our health. A person would have to be crazy to think other wise. Just my 2cents.
