a date with a woman

After 21 years of marriage my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said i love you but i know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you. the other woman my wife wanted me to date was my MOTHER who has been a widow for 19 years but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night i called to invite her to dinner and the movie. "whats wrong? are you well?" She asked. My mom is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. "i thought it would be pleasant to be with you" i responded," just the two of us" She thought about it for a moment and said "I would like that very much" That friday as i drove to pick her up after work i was slightly nervous. when i arrived at her house i found that she too was a bit nervous.she had curled her hair and was wearing the dress she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. " I told my friends that i was going on a date with my son and they were all impressed" she said as she got into the car."they cant wait to hear about our meeting" We went to a restaurant that was nice and cozy. My mom took my arm as if she were the first lady. After we sat down i had to read the menu which was in small print.halfway through the entries i lifted my head to see my mother smiling a nostalgic smile at me. " IT was I who used to read the menu when you were small" she said. Then its time you relax and let me return the favor" I said. During the dinner we had an agreeable conversation -nothing extraordinary. Just catching up on each others lives. We talked so much that we missed the movie. " how was your dinner date?" asked my wife. " Very nice. MUch more than i imagined it to be " I said. A few days later my mom died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that i did not have time to do anything for her. Some time later i recieved an envelope with a copy of the reciept of the same restaurant where i and my mom had dined. An attached note said "I paid this bill in advance. I wasnt sure I could be there. But nevertheless i paid for two plates. One for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you son" At that moment i understood the importance of saying in time" I LOVE YOU" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. NOTHING IN LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOD AND YOUR FAMILY. give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off to some other time as that time may not come at all. I read this heart warming story and wanted to share it with you. pls post your comments on this hope you enjoyed it as much as i did

For the first few lines, I was thinking, "Maybe his wife wants him to learn something new about dating and making things romantic again. Perhaps that other woman is friend of hers..." As I read on and found out that the woman that the wife was implying was the mother of her husband. This is quite interesting since for most couples who are busy, they rarely get to consider their parents which they left behind when they themselves are starting a family of their own. I continued to read on, it was intersting as I have implied for our mother is also special to me. I wanted to find out what happened next. Its a touching story. A very touching story. Thank you for sharing something like this

What an amazing, uplifting story. I have always felt that there is nothing more important in life than another human being, especially one very close to us. But often people are so wrapped up n their career, their family, everything else, they tend to ignore their partners and their parents who die inside from neglect. Thanks for sharing this. It really deserves to be aired as much as possible. It really makes you think.

Hi naseeha, Well, the way your post started out, I was thinking I'd better warn this fellow to check for chicken bones in his casserole... very strange indeed. However, a warm and touching story it is. I do hope this isn't one of those stories that people send around by email with the request to send it to everyone you know - that just turns nice stories into a flood of junk mail... I guess the the thing in my mind is that if the old girl ate properly and got a lot of outdoor air and exercise, she might not have had a heart attack, and would still be kicking now. But I guess we can't have everything. Life is what it is.

its a very nice discussion i guess. yes, in liofe when we grow up, we sometimes just ignore parents. its not correct. they should be most important persons in life. so just spend some time with her.

That is indeed one lovely story. the son was so fortunate to have had that one lovely pleasant last meal with his mom.He was so right about saying I love you in time as too late won't cut it. I did tell my husband that' I loved him quite often but I still missed saying goodbye to him as I had been with him but left to do some vital errands and he passed away before I could get back to the hospital. but he did know that I loved him.
