Yes, take it easy on him, because if he is not ready for it, he is not ready! As long as he is taking water and milk, he is alright! The way to do it is slowly! you start out 90% milk, 10% more solid food, then when he does good on that you go to 80% milk and 20% solid food, then the more he does well with those keep increasing ,go to 70% milk and 30% solid food! Remember if he doesn't have teeth solid food will be hard for him to digest, I wouldn't give him solid food until he has teeth, not only do the teeth grind, the saliva that will be there at that time will be there to emulsify the food also! Not only that he will be older, and his digestive system will be able to process solid food, a whole lot better!

My son struggled with solid food for about a month. I started giving him baby rice cereal and oatmeal. Everyday I would make it alittle thicker. Then by the end of the month I was adding fruit to it. Now he is 18 months old and eats everything in site. Good luck.

when my son was a baby I had some problems too but I started on baby cereal and just made it thicker then put some fruit in it,no problem and soon he was' eating strained veggies and fruits and strained meats. they just have to get used to the feel and consistency of solid food little by little.
