Christmas In May?

Well as suspected my mother in law went over board for the baby. This baby is still four months away from being borm and yet shes already got just about everything she needs. I left home with a suitcase and some blankets and returned with a trunk full of stuff. I do appreciate it alot as I will not be needing to buy much saves me so much money. My MIL is the type who is always shopping she has christmas presents already wrapped and ready to go. So do you or are you the type who over does it when shopping? Do you shop for advance gifts?

Thats good that you have just about everything you need for the baby. Maybe you won't have to buy too much more. My brothers girlfriend is going to have a baby in August, we're excited about it, but we don't get to see them very much because they live away from us, she will be my first niece, I already have 6 nephews, we have all boys. But no I'm not the type who over does on shopping, I always wait till the last minute. I don't like shopping actually, it gets stressful on me, because I try too hard trying to find the perfect gift...lol.

What a lovely mother in law you have there. I am not that organised and leave everything to the last few weeks of the holidays.

oh yes, i shop all year round for gifts because this way, you can get stuff on sale which is a big bonus! (why pay extra just because its christmas???) i do start my wrapping in about november (i hate wrapping and can only manage a couple of presents per night!) i would say i have about a quarter done already.

wow!I am sure she will not miss anyone for gift giving since she is very prepared. I am not like that, I tend to shop 2 weeks before the occasion or sometimes a week before. But, I want that idea since I have enough time to think, prepare and less stressful too!

I am the type to go a little overboard as far as gift giving with my family. I just always seem to see something that I think they will like so, I will pick it up. The problem is, I can never do it when it would be easier on my wallet to spread it out throughout the year and not have to cram it all into November and December and then pay for it into the new year. I always try to plan to do that. I promise myself that is what I will do. I even made a New Year's resolution to do it. Well! A lotta good that did me! Here it is nearly June and I still haven't done it! LOL!

I wish I would think to pick up things all through the year for Christmas.. but no, I never do! But then it is internet and catalogue shopping for the most part, as I very much dislike the stores, especially when they are very busy.. Case in point, my daughter's having a child in September, very likely a girl according to the ultrasound, and I haven't bought a thing yet! I think I'm shopping challenged..

I have been known to over do things it the past. I don't, or at least try not to do that anymore. I think it's great that your mother-in-law is getting you most all of the things you need. You will definately be set up and ready when that baby gets here.

No I am not an advance shopper. I tried it out a few times but I ended up buying more than I actually needed. I had shopped in advance and then when the actual festival season was here, I shopped again! Shopping in advance somehow takes away the fun from shopping during the festival season….all the decorations and SALES and new arrivals…oh its too much of fun and shopping during the peaceful non-festive months is so dull. Its almost like a chore you just have to get done. BTW your MIL is so cute, you don’t see these types much these days. My MIL is exactly similar…the moment she heard I was expecting she was busy stitching nappies and clothes and such for the baby. I cherish her help a lot.

Yeah my MIL does tend to buy too much but she loves it. Every xmas we know our boys will be spoiled so we dont have to go so overboard lol. Its a lifesaver.

How nice of your MIL to do this. Sometimes I will buy a few things ahead of time but not too far in advance, especially where my grandson is concerned since his taste for things changes from one week to another.

Yeah I am the same. I got a few ready but she literally has stuff everywhere. I remeber when my hubby and me started dating she found out on a visit it was my bday in a few days and went to her room and pulled out about 10 gifts for me. She just had them laying around her place.

Yes...and probably go overboard sometimes especially for the grandkids.....I love to spoil them. When I was raising my own kids I didn't have extra money so now when I do I like buying things for both the grandkids and the kids......man...it's so much fun!

Though I don't, my wife does. I wouldn't say she goes overboard, she just does Christmas shopping throughout the year. It's a good thing too, cause sometimes around Christmas my work slows down so the pay checks get smaller.

Well i don't think i overdo it (except for our family reunion) but i do try to shop throughout the year because my husbands job at times slows down around the holidays. I don't usually actually start Christmas shopping until Jan. 2nd. I like to stay home on the first because of all the nuts on the road! And the sales and clearances during the year helps us be able to get better gifts than if i had waited until the last min. and had to pay the full price!

My mom is like that. She already has Christmas for next year all ready. She even has the presents all wrapped. We do Christmas at her house in the basement, so she just leaves the decorations up year round. She is a shopaholic, and is always on the lookout for a bargain.

I do not always shop in advance but as a grand mother and MIL, it sure helps! I do not think I over do it however, and I bet you will not get your MIL to admit it either. We just love to do it.

That's really sweet of you mother-in-law going overboard with the baby buying stuff, just think you won't have to worry about getting anything...hey has your proud Dad gotten anything for the baby yet? Most of the gifts I give to people are ones that I make myself since I do a lot of craft work...so kind of saves me money there..LOL

minnie I do so admire people who shop ahead like that as I am one of those last minute shoppers for Christmas gifts. that was sweet' of your mother in law to do all that for 'you. a refreshing change from all the mylotters who cannot stand their mothers in law. I loved my mom in law but we lived in separate states so never got to see her but once. she was a very sweet lady.

I didn't used to be. I am always that last minute shopper and I HATE shopping. So this year I am going to start my christmas shopping in June. I am buying ALL handmade gifts at etsy.com (which is where I have a shop as well) and I am going to buy a couple of gifts each month until Christmas. This way I am not broke for all of Dec. and Jan. and I don't have to deal with shopping at stores. :) Not to mention I have found a LOT of really reasonably priced handmade gifts for everyone on my list from 3mos to 100yrs lol. So this year I plan to be more organized. (we'll see lol)
