Boys Can Be So Dirty?

United States

While on vacation all the boys including my two boys my hubby and my dog. Well they all decided to explore the woods after a nice rainy day. Well they all came back dirty my dog being the worst. I was upset at first but hey they had fun just walking all over the muddy mess of woods. My boys were so excited cause they found one of my hubbys old baseball bats out there that he had lost as a kid. So does anyone else have stories of exploring places and finding long lost memories?

Boys are always like that only. But my childhood is not like that. my parents never allow me outside when raining. they tell me that i will catch sick.

No story; but you have to admi when you saw them; you know that they were having mad fun. Just looking at how dirty they were; all you could do was laugh. Now had that be a girl she would not have went with them and if she had gone. She would have been mad about getting dirty. Unless she was a tom boy and didn't mind. I bet you wish you went with them too.

About five years ago my father asked me to take him and an old friend of his into some woods that they used to play in years ago. I was in my mid thirties at the time so you can imagine how long ago it was. On our journey we found a fort they made as kids. There wasn't much to it any more but the ladder they nailed (just wood nailed to a tree) was still intact and the tree had begun to grow around it really. They wanted to climb it and I advised against it. I ended up climbing it for them and made it safely actually. When I made it to the for I found several comic books and some magazines from their childhood. They were in horrible shape of course but the two of them just smiled and shed a few tears. They looked like they were 10 years old again. Who wants to grow up anyway, really? It was one of the best days of their lives, or so they said. The got to relive some wonderful childhood memories and for me, well, it was a very good time for me as well.

I was just remembering when we had our house in Westminister ca. and we were digging up a garden space for my herb garden. I found under a pile of debris a bracelet of Gold 'with charms on it and someones initials carved on the 'other side. I had brought it in and was cleaning it when this girl scout came to my door. she was selling'girl scout cookies. She told me she used to live in our house 'before we bought it. then she saw this bracelet and she was so excited. "I think thats mine, if it has from Mom to Dee dee on the inside." I looked at her dumbfounded' and we looked inside and sure enough that was what the' engraving said, from mom to dee dee. So she got her bracelet back and I even bought some cookies from her. bad me. i am a diabetic and the last thing I needed was cookies.

My son never liked getting dirty. He did play hard, but as soon as he got too messy, he'd be back inside wanting to wash up. When he was about 8, we lived on an acre. His older half-sister gave him a metal detector for his birthday. Boy did that keep him and his friends busy for weeks! They thought they might find some buried treasure, but all they found were lots of rusty nails, screws and bolts. They did dig a bunch of holes in our yard.

I have two boys, ages 12 and 13. I sometimes believe that they could get dirty walking through a cotton factory. They nor I have the opportunity to find long lost memories though as we have moved several times over the years.

That sounds like alot of fun. The boys will remember that muddy walk in the woods. I remember once when I was a kid, we went to a park after if had rained. We slid on this twirlly slide, at the bottom was a giant mud hole. We came flying off that slide and kerplunk, yep right in the mud. My moms face was priceless, then she made the memories even more priceless, she let us go again and again. We had so much fun, we got so muddy, our clothes would not clean. That memory is one of my best ones. I will have to ask my mom if she remembers that.

No, but I have been wanting to get a metal detector and do some exploring around here. I live across the street from the house we lived in up until I was about 7 yrs.old and diagonal from the one I grew up in. There were a few people who lived in the house across the street before Dad bought it. Its a pretty old house and then down the road is the remains of an old shack that mom and dad lived in back in the late 40's and early 50's. When I was growing up we found lots of Indian arrowheads around our cotton field. I'd like to really get out and look around and see if I could find more artifacts.

Minnie that is pretty neat that your boys get to take the same steps that their father did when he was a lad. That is exciting and not all children get to experience the same path of their parents. We move to much, to many divorces, to much life. i know for you the mess is aggravating, but you know what? They will be grown so fast and these days will be gone.

Not really.....but I have lived in my house for many years. Two years ago when I was redoing a room I took down the paneling and found a closet.....that I never knew was behind the paneling...and there were treasures inside....old things left behind so many years ago.....including two very old baseball cards!

I have a 12yr. and a 13yr.old son, i promise they can get dirty sitting in a church pew! I'm not sure how they do it , it's just a talent i guess. We live on the land that belonged to my grandparents so i do catch myself pointing out trees or whatever that i use to play and climb and every once in awhile they will drag something out of the woods that belonged to this cousin or that uncle or someone long gone. I enjoy telling them about the junk they find , and they seem to enjoy hearing it.

Boys will be boys no matter what their age. My brother is so into geneology and he lives up closer to our parents old home places and one year while up there visiting and our mother was still alive we went on a "hunt" at one of her old home places and besides old bottles and things like that my brother found an old childs shoe and it was our mother's. She even remembered that shoe and had a story behind it to tell us. Also after rains at my father in laws we used to go out and find old indian arrow heads.
