Well folks I see that there has not been a discussion about bagels for a while. And that's good because I'd like your views please. I prefer mine with cream cheese. A bit of smoked salmon is not something I'd sneeze at either. But otherwise I'm not big on having other things on it. It just doesn't "work" the way cream cheese does. So tell me if you have other things you prefer.

I like bagels a lot. I haven't been able to find these for years, but I used to love blueberry bagels, either served with nothing on top, or just some margarine. I like savoury bagels more if they're seeded or flavoured with garlic, cheese or herbs as they're a bit too bland and stodgy without. I like them with Philadelphia or cheese-spread, and topped with cucumber.
American bagels are definitely nicer than the ones we have in the UK.

We are such a backward nation here. We're lucky if we can get a bagel with some sesame seeds on it. Nevermind cheese, garlic and herbs! Those sound really good though and the thought is making my mouth water.
We can get two kinds here. Fresh which you just have to split and schmeer and the kind in plastic that you can toast at home. On occassion when I want to splurge I'll get the New York Style and they are really good. Although a bit expensive though.

I have never had cream cheese and never plan to... the idea of smoked salmon on a bagel made me gag lol. I am just a simple girl and I like butter on mine. Anything else ruins it...
