We tried "stop chew" spray on the areas he is chewing he doesnt seem to mind the taste but it makes the house stink.
He also chews the walls just above the skirting boards.
He had had bowel problems since we had him and we have tried good quality complete mixes James well beloved No luck. SOmeone else recommended Bakers but no luck either,I am going to try Raw food with biscuits next with vit tablets. Is the chewing diet related even on the complete mix he seems to always be hungry we wieghed him and deffinatly feeding him the right amount for his weight. I think maybe more roughage but my husband seems to think Im treeting him like a human and he needs more meat. Any advice? he did quite well on rice and raw meat before. and can you feed dogs veggies?

Border Collies have tons and tons of energy. Are you sure he isn't just bored and the boredom is why he is chewing up the house? Do you have a yard where he can run? They really need to run and work (use their herding instinct) each day, it's what they're bred to do.

Thanks for the advice. He is walked for 2 one hour sessions a day we have a yard where he plays mainly chews bones and sniffs about oh and also he digs holes which I accept is also normal doggy behaviour but I can forget having a nice lawn any more. Im sure hes bored but I cant walk him any more I would have thought 2 hours would be enough unless he would be better going to a farm home where abviously they are ment to be but I would rather not have to get rid of him. He has plenty of toys and i but new ones at least one a week. I was just hoping it was something I could do something about.

hehehe sounds just like my max!!! firstly he will grow out of it eventually.they need alot of persistance when it comes to being taught whats right and wrong just be firm with him and tell him no when he does it, remove him from the area give him a time out in the yard or laundry. they are just like lil kids well mine is anyway! i feed my dog just everyday tin dog food once a night with some dry food in the morning. they do get very bored and this could be contributing to hes nawtyness, try getting him some chew toys or big bones raw of course, balls a teddy something he is allowed to destroy or chew, trust me he will love it! and just like you, i too treat my dog like a human he is part of my family and i love him very much and he is so very intelligent (as border collies are) let me know how you go if you like. is he pure bred? long or short hair?what colour is he? how old is he?:-)
