Do people think about names before they name their babies? I was just wondering because some kids have crazy names and I don't think people actually realize that kids get picked on because of their names. Sometimes their names are so crazy you have to wonder if the parents were smoking pot in the hospital room. When we picked the name for our son we really couldn't decide on a name. I watch Gone in 60 Seconds alot because it is my favorite movie. And one night when I was pregnant we watched it and I asked my husband about Memphis. We actually agreed and named him Memphis Lee. I don't think that it is a funny or bad name. I really thought about it before we put it on the birth certificate.
How did you come up with a child's name? Do you think people need to think more before naming their child? Do you know someone that named their kid a strang name?

I think most people really do think about the name before they name their child, but people just like different things. I do believe there are some people that name their kids things, KNOWING they will be made fun of, but I don't think that's the case with MOST people.
We named our son, Elliott. It was the only boys name we even considered. We both really liked it from the start. Part of the reason that we liked it is because it's not really common, but it's a name that just about everyone has heard of. We gave him a very common middle name, too, though, just in case he decides somewhere down the road that he wants common.

Likewise, Memphis is not a common name but it is simple and not a funny word or an animal. I am just really interested in how people come up with names. When we first started thinking of names we wrote a list of names that were common in both of our families and decided that he couldn't be named any of those. Some may say that it was wrong for us to do that but I wanted him to have his own name. My mother-in-law had even asked me, if we had a girl if we could give her Marie as a middle name. I like the name Marie but every woman in their family has marie for their middle name. So I dicided if we had a girl her middle name would be Rai (ray). My husband agreed with me on that.

Well, i know someone named breezy, blossom, stormy, sunshine, and twinkle. Those are pretty odd names to me, but hey, its their kid, they gave birth to them, it's their choice and no one elses.

People obviously do think about their childs name before it is born, just like you did. Alot of people might think that Memphis is a really weird, far out name. And alot of parents really think about it before their put the name on their Birth Certificate. Some people just have different tastes.
My partner and I couldnt decide on a name for our daughter. It took months of reading baby books, asking friends and family. And finally, we came up with Maddison. It was not a very common name, I only ever knew one Madison in my life and my partner knew none. It was a great choice.

Madison is a very cute name. My many issue is that I don't think some people think about how a name will effect a child through out their life. That is what I was trying to get at. Yeah, I know Memphis is a different name and I had never heard it as a real name only a fictional character. But it is something that he can live with and not be ashamed of.
