I think that it is a great thing to learn a musical instrument. I started to learn the electric guitar quite late on (18) but I really enjoy the learning process and the satisfaction of learning new songs and techniques. It has also broadened my taste in music and introduced me to different genres that I had never heard of. If you ever get the chance I think that you should take up the flute again because you obviously have a passion for them.

I don't know how to play any instrument yet. I just bought an acoustic guitar and I am trying to teach myself to play it. I hope that I learn soon though. I am taking it really slow and patiently so that I don't give up.

Yeah I know. I get frustrated easily when I can't do something right. I really beat myself up when I mess up but I am going to try and make the best of it. I have this hunger to learn how to play it and I am hoping that it's enough for me to learn and not to give up. Although I am not much of that kind of person that gives up so that's not an option.

Personally, I think playing a string instrument of any kind is especially difficult. But an Acoustic guitar has got to be one of the roughest to play. Not only do you have to have the right finger on the right fret with the right string, but you then have to get your finger in the right position on the fret and apply just the right amount of pressure to ensure a good clean note. That is of course with all six or twelve strings in tune with each other.
So yeah. a good slow pace with out placing too many demands on your progress is a good way to go, in my book.

I think its great when someone decides to start learning an instrument. I think the best tip i can give you is be patient and don't take any shortcuts. When i was learning there were times when i thought f**k this because i just couldn't nail a certain part in a song or a technique. Good luck and let us know how you get on :')

I play the guitar and bass. I'm adequate at the bass, but I really love playing guitar, particularly song from the 90s. That has to be the best decade for music.

I gave bass a try but couldn't get into it, I just really love playing riffs and some solos. I have to say though that i think the best decade for music, rock wise, is the 80s. so many classic songs came out in that time period. What sort of music do you play on the guitar and what bands influence you?

Welcome to Mylot.
I play electric and acoustic Guitar. I prefer Electric. I have a Real nice blue Ibanez, a wahwah pedal, a distortion unit, and 2 different kinds of Flanger Units. I have an old tube 100 watt Fender ProReverb Amp that is just amazing. I have been playing since 1972.
I love progressive rock and play a lot of original Rock and Blues. I have had people tell me I sound Like Jimi Hendrix. I take that as such a great compliment.
Flamin, you play anything?

Your gear sounds amazing. How long have you been playing for? I use a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR with a Line 6 Spider 3 50W which sounds amazing with its built in effects. I love to play classic rock / hard rock / metal but I also play a little acoustic. All time favourite guitarists is a man called Paul Gilbert formerly of Mr Big and the legend that is slash!
