How did you react when you heard a child say bad words?

Children do not know what is right and what is wrong and it is up for us parents to guide and lead them to the right path. One time, I heard my grandchild utter a bad word and so surprised I was because I never was expecting a 2 year old child to speak that way. I did not get angry, I did not spank him as some mothers would because I believe the child is innocent and really does not know what he was talking about. What I did was to hold him by the hand, looked straight to his eyes and told him to listen to me very, very carefully... I told him not to utter the word again because it is bad and Jesus would not want to hear anyone to speak that word. I asked him where he learned the word and he mentioned a playmate's name. I then told him that he should tell his playmate not to say that word also because Jesus will get angry. Then I discussed to him further why Jesus will be angry if we utter bad words. After that... I told him to pray with me so he could ask forgiveness from God and he did follow. From that day onward... I saw how my grandchild would give careful attention to words he would say... most of the time I would overhear him telling his playmate..No, don't say bad words...Jesus will get angry!!! How cute he sounded and how amazing an innocent child could absorb the things we teachthem. So parents, let's all take time to teach our children so that they will grow to be responsible children of our society. Please share your experience with your kids as well. God bless!

You did the very right thing absolutely. And we should learn sth from you.Children is so young that they can not get the meaning of what they say and we should talk to them to change their fault just in your way.You are great.

The first bad word out of my kids mouth was repeated right after I had said it sop I couldn't be mad at her. I just sat her down and explained that that was an ugly word and that either of us should have said it. Then started working on my mouth. In my defense that was a REALLY big spider!

Parent's generally teach their children the right things to do and say, but the environment that have also a great influence over the growth of a child, and it's hard to supervise the child 24/7. Hopefully by the person or relative that have a concern for a child can influence more that their unfriendly environment.

I have the problem too. my wife often say bad words. so I decided to get $1 from her when she say that. but it doesn't work. I have $500 now. we have a kid, only 1 year old. I wonder if my kid will say that like his mother.

Too bad, parents should set the good example because kids learn from them whether they like it or not. Hope your wife will think about it. thanks for sharing!
