Theres been several reports in the news lately about shark attacks. Sharks, for the most part, have one goal…to hunt the oceans for food. Any moving object whether it is another fish, dolphin, person or floating raft is deemed possible food and sharks natural instincts are to try to eat it. Knowing these basic things, is a good reason to not go out in the ocean, especially when there are already shark spottings or other shark attacks that have happened. Although they say that sharks won’t attack unless provoked the truth is that out of 96 attacks, 62 were unprovoked. Most sharks’ live 20-30 years and some live over 100 years. There are more than 360 species in 8 different categories. Out of the 360, only four have been involved in unprovoked attacks the great white, tiger, oceanic whitetip and bull sharks. If you knew there had been recent shark attacks would you still go in the water? Would you let your spouse or children? Would you ever swim in the ocean trusting that they wouldn’t attack? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

That's one of the reasons you'll never catch me in the ocean. That's totally out of my element. If you're too far out you can't just stop swimming if your tired & can't sleep. Then there's also the fact that there are things out there that could just swallow you before you even knew they were there. At least on land I could at least make sure the animal earned his meal. Out there it's just "GULP" ...gone. No thanks.

The thing about the reports is that, they aren't any more than normal. They are just being reported because there is nothing else to talk about on the news. So, It isn't that there are more attacks than normal. Simply that the attacks before were not reported on the news as something more important to report took that time. But, there are areas more likely to have more shark attacks than others and I would stay away from those areas. So, basically, I would probably check the history of shark attacks in an area and, if there were lots, I would not swim there. If there weren't many at all, then I would swim with caution. I tend to stay close to the beach though so, where I go, it is an extremely rare occasion that an attack would happen as I don't tend to be in deep enough water for a shark to get close enough to even approaching me with chow in his or her eyes.

No, I wouldn't go into the water. I wouldn't let my family or friends either. There was movies on last week on sharks and I just couldn't bring myself to go in the water if I knew there had been attacks lately in that water. I think that is so scary! I think that is the good sense the Good Lord gave each one of us. We need to use our good sense. God bless you.

i have-we all used to go swimming right off the pier when the beaches were full-and there's great whites and sand sharks in the atlantic. there's always a risk, but most of the time they don't come in. if i knew they were hanging out that week i wouldn't though.but most of the time here it's the jellyfish that are more dangerous.

If the weather is nice, and I get a chance to be in the water, I'll go for it, but I rarely get the chance. Usually I go to Jax Beach, when I go to visit my nephew. I think they have shark watches over there to warn swimmers if one has been spotted. If there were a definite shark spotting in the area, I would be cautious.

Hrm tough question personally for me here. Would I myself swim in the ocean if I had heard that THIS specific area had RECENTLY had attacks, NO then. But if someone said that this area had an attack back in 1933. Well that might be a bit different and I would probably just be very close to shore lol. Personally I have never been to the ocean to swim so can't say I could have ever taken this risk. Though for family and friends and such I think if it was an area well guarded that wasn't known for attacks I might feel a little safer. Though I would still ask everyone to stay near shore so that just in case. You don't want to take to big of a chance as they do come close to shore rarely. My two cents... ~*~J_Dawgs~*~

Heck no I wouldn't swin in the ocean if I heard and knew they had been shark attack reported and I wouldn't let my kids or husband. Although if your unhappy and want a way to get rid of the hubby it would be a good way too and not get into trouble..I didn't know they were that many species of sharks and I didn't know they lived to be that old. They live longer then people..they must be doing somehting right to live so long. That is to high a number for unprovoked attacks for me to go swimming in the ocean it may be beauitful and fun but unless they have something to block the sharks you won't be seeing or hearing me getting into a ocean anytime soon. I will stick to my little yard pool.

If I knew there were sharks in the water, whether they have attacked anyone or not, I would not go in. Nor would I allow my children or spouse to go in. I would be too afraid of them or me getting attacked.

Actually I won't go into the ocean at all. The thought of something just swallowing me before I even knew it was there doesn't sit well with me. At least on land I can make sure that whatever eats me has to work for it's meal. GULP Gone doesn't seem right.

I'd like to point out here that sharks are naturally inquisitive creatures. They don't deliberately target humans for food, more for satisfying their own curiosity of humans. Sharks have a lot of nerve endings in their mouths, so tasting or biting gives them a lot of information on what an object is. Due to that, often a shark will bite, let go, and run! They don't like the metallic taste of us humans at all, and will only eat us if they are desperate for food. The term unprovoked can be misleading, as many people don't understand the true nature of sharks, even the so-called maneater sharks. This means that people are afraid and quick to say that the shark must be hunted down and killed so it won't keep doing it. Educating people properly on the nature of sharks is the key, not spending thousands of dollars hunting down a single shark, only to find they have caught more than one innocent shark by mistake. I think if we approach swimming in the ocean with fear, then we are more likely to encourage the attacks by sharks. I also think that we invade their territory without thinking about how it impacts on the sharks. I know I'd be rather upset if a shark just came into my house and tried to take over.

I actually have never been swimming in the sea since I watched Jaws, all of them. I would rather my children did not go in either but they only paddle so it is not too bad. I think that sharks do attack for no reason, well put this way I wont be putting that theory to the test.

HELL no! I've never been in the ocean and don't plan on it. Though it would be cool to scuba and look at reefs and that kind of stuff, the un-coolness of being eaten alive far outweighs that. Just the thought of not being able to see what lurks below as it circles beneath you freaks me out. Nope... no thanks.

A person is not really considered a possible food source, it is a matter of mistaken identity. When people are killed, it is usually because the shark bit through a vital spot. Usually, a shark bites a person to see what they are, to satisfy their curiosity. They are really harmless and nice creatures, and do not mean any harm to human beings. I would definitely go into the water if I knew that there had been a recent attack. Statistically, there are very little shark attacks, especially to the ratio of people who get into the water on a daily basis. Getting into the water because you fear a shark attack is like not going outside ever again because you fear being struck by lightning.

I have a hard time with going in the ocean, but I am okay with a freshwater lake. I would not go in where there was a shark sighting.

Like all of nature... man has tried to overtake another animal's territory and slowly but surely it's coming back on us. I think it's still safe but I do think the increase of attacks shows that we're pushing our limits in other species territories.

I have have in the Atlantic Ocean multiple times. I am more weary of it now than when I was a fearless kid. I know that I probably won't ever swim in Destin, FL. I have heard way too may horror stories recently. My husband and I are planning to take a trip to Hawaii in the next year or so. I will most likely go in the water there but not very deep.

There is no telling what happened for the sharks to attack. But i do know that this year has had more than normal. Something in the water i guess.

I'm not crazy about swimming in the Ocean. Walking in the sand is enough for me. I like a cement pond with a nice controlled environment.

I definitely would not go in knowing that there have been sightings of sharks. Ever since the movie "JAWS" I'm freaked out of 'em! I love the beach, living in Cali, but I stay away from the water....maybe just get my feet wet but that's about it!!!
