Do you use your own bags at the grocery store or do you have them bagged in plastic or paper? I take my own bags with me but I only have 7 so anything beyond that goes in plastic. Most of the time I get an exasperated look from the bagger when I ask that my groceries be bagged in my bags instead of the plastic or paper ones the store provides. For some reason they hate this.

We had that problem too till we started putting them back in the trunk after we emptied them at home. I missed out on getting one of the free green bags on earth day. I seen people with them all over the store but never could locate where they were giving them out.

I use both their plastic and paper. It is getting to the point where everyone is selling the type you carry, although the size they are selling, is very small. I would have to have tons of them.

I agree with you on the size. But a bigger bag would also mean a heavier bag. When I shop, it's usually for 2 weeks at a time. I can't imagine having to carry one bag full of 20 cans, 20 boxes, and everything else on top of it!

Before June 1st, i use plastic bags in every grocery store or supermarket. But several days later, i won't use that no longer coz i can't use that stuff in my country's supermakers or groceries any more. All plastic bags are forbidden in any shop from that day. I don't mind to take a bag with me when i am shopping, but iam wondering how i can put a fish or meat into my bag in a food market?

Ewwww, I never even thought about putting fish or meat in there! I have yet to use my own bags, but because they are selling them nearly everywhere now, I have been thinking about it. However, my thinking didn't get as far as the fish and meat problem...glad you mentioned it!

I'd like to use my own, but I don't have any re-usable bags yet. I was going to try to make a few from bread and other plastic bags, but it's very cumbersome to work with and I just haven't got that far yet.
I shop mainly at Aldi's and WalMart. I have several paper bags from Aldi's that I use over and over again, so that is one savings. I don't know how it would go over at WalMart since they have the bags on those little turnabout things. If I do get some decent, sturdy bags accumulated, I surely will use them, though.

I use the walmart reusable bags I bought for $1.00 a piece. None of the stores like it when we bring our own bags they act like it is a total inconvenience to them. I get dirty looks from baggers all the time.

I take my own bags. I have some string bags which i keep in my handbag as they are so small when not in use, and I keep other cloth bags in the car so I don't forget them. If I know I am going shopping I also take a handful of plastic bags to recycle by using another time.
Somehow though, despite all my best efforts, I normally end up with at least one or two plastic bags following me home. Sometimes the staff are just faster than I am at bagging my purchases!

A couple of the stores I go to will give me a discount if I bring my own bags. I only have four bags, but I don't get a whole lot of food each time I go. I used to have a cupboard full of plastic bags before I started using cloth bags. Now, I hardly have any plastic bags at all. And, the ones that I do have are really large ones that I can also use for shopping bags. The only time I don't use my own bags is when I go to a department store or I forget to bring my own bags into the store.

Oh, that is so strange that they give you looks... We bag our own, so my husband (the bagger) knows better than to give me looks :)
We use our own bags - now that we remember to take them! We actually got them for free when the store ran a promotion. We need one more because sometimes we have more than 2 bags full of groceries so I'm waiting for another promotion to get one for free.

I have two bags that I try to remember to take in with me when I go grocery shopping. I've only recently started doing this, so I still forget a lot. I usually end up using a plastic bag or two, since two bags doesn't hod quite everyting I usually need to buy.
Your right about the baggers, I don't always get dirty looks, but I can tell they are a little confused. Especially when I tell them to load up the cloth bags with more than they would usually put in a plastic or paper bag. I guess they don't realize a cloth bag is so much stronger. I generally try to bag my groceries myself, if possible, to avoid these discussions.

This discussion has made me feel guilty. You see, back in my home country, I usually use my own bags and even encouraged the rest of my family (my mom and sister) to bring their own bags when they shop. But recently, I've been working in another country. I try to bring my own bags and tell them to put my purchases in but they don't quite understand my instructions, so they put my purchases into the store's bags then put it inside my bag. If I remove their bag, they just stuff it back into my bag.
I gotta buy bigger and better bags and try harder in explaining what I want done :P
Thanks for the reminder, everyone.

There is nothing wrong with useing your own bags if you have them and if those get full useing the store ones. I personally don't have my own bags so I just have the store bag my groceries with their plastic bags. Everyone has their own way of doing what he/or she likes when it comes to haveing their goceries bagged.
