It was bound to happen - I have a blister

Although I have been walking for years and even new shoes have not given me problems in the past, I have a blister today from walking. I think it's because my socks are old and a bit worn. In the area I have the blister (on the inside of my heel) my socks have those little "pills" where the material balls up. I'm sure that's what caused it, I could feel it rubbing a little yesterday when I walked. I just this week upped my walking to 3 miles each morning and I'm hoping that this does not put me on temporary hold. I've also scheduled a "training walk" for the people who are doing the 3-Day walk with me for this Saturday. I would hate to have to cancel because of this blister, so I'm hoping it goes away fast!

Simplysue has it right. If you walk a lot, it is always good to wear 2 pairs of socks, even if you are not breaking in new shoes. Blisters can be dangerous. They get infected easily. Be sure to take care of it. Keep it clean, use antibiotic ointment and a bandage until the new skin has grown in. For your current blister, I'd wear the two pairs of socks, and an extra-thick bandage (or two, one on top of the other) for cushioning of the blister. Also don't forget the antibiotic cream! They make some, I believe it's Neosporin, with a pain reliever in it. I'd use that kind if I were you. The more padding you have between that blister and your shoe, the better. I wish you luck this weekend! Be careful and have fun.

Thanks! I talked with one of the girls that did this walk a few years ago and she got blisters pretty bad on the first day of the (3-day) walk. She ended up with some pretty bad sores so I'll be keeping an eye on this to make sure it's ok.

The school was taking us to drayton manor as a celebration that we finished our SATs. I was stupid enought o wear shoes that give me blisters, forgetting they do so. I had a blister on the back of each ankle by the time I got to school. Nice scabs now :S Hope they get better =]

I hope you weren't in too much pain that day. I had a pair of sandals that I wore for the first time on vacation and I got a blister. That was a drag because we walked for about 4 hours that night and my foot really hurt. I didn't wear the sandals the rest of the week.

I was told by a gym teacher to wear two pairs of socks when breaking in new shoes. Apparently the rubbing will go on between the two pair of socks instead of the socks and your skin. I hope your blister heals soon.

I think my blister was mainly from the old socks. I've been wearing these shoes for about 2 weeks now, and they fit great. That is a good idea about breaking them in with 2 socks, I'll have to remember that - of course I need to wear not-so-old socks!
