Barbie VS. Brats

This morning on GMA (Good Morning America) they reported on the company which makes Barbie (MATEL) is suing the company which makes Brats (MGA) over the issue of who's idea was Brats to begin with.
Apparently the man who created the Bratz doll drew up the sketches while working for Matel- then later when on to create the doll with MGA. If Matel wins- they could cut into a huge amount of MGA's profits from the dollz.
I personally can't believe that Barbie is threanted by the new Bratz dollz. I really don't forsee Bratz dolls to be as popular over time as Barbie has been, but that is just my own opinion. What's yours?

Well, my kids used to play with barbies, and my granddaughter was into the bratz's up until a year ago.There is no comparrisin to the two dolls, they are very differant indeed.I knoe the bratz dolls are very popular and I think they will be around for very long time.I think that there ae a differant class of people buying the bratz dolls.My granddaughter really never liked the barbie, but loveed the bratz, so I really do not know.

oh wow- thanks for sharing- A post like yours is exactly what I needed because it compares the kids of yesterday- to the ones of today.
I personally think bratz go a little far with the makeup and jewlery- I mean these are made for little girls. Our little girls are already growing up way too fast- I think this just helps speed up the process sometimes.
I remember loving barbie- I actually still have one in particular that I just couldn't bear to part with.
I am anxious to see just how long the bratz stay so popular- and is it with a certain age group? Because I remember playing with Barbie from the age of 5 into my pre-teen years.

I still love Barbies... Up to now, I still collect em. I love the almost perfect image of Barbie. i use Barbie images in profile pictures like in facebook, ym, and even here in mylot :)

I know my daughter who is 6 loves BRatz... she also likes Barbie, but when asked to pick 1, she goes for bratz & her reason is, they are prettier. I also asked my sisters daughter, she chose Bratz as well & said because they have cuter accessories.
Things change as time goes on, today's kids, not all, but many prefere Bratz over Barbie.
Barbie is popular, but not as popular as Bratz are these days.
I remember playing wiht Barbie myself as a kid.... loved Barbie! But I honestly think Bratz today is a good improvment. It's like the change from a pager to a cell phone, type writer to computer.

You are right, Barbie has been around for at least a bit over 1/2 a century which is my age and although the Bratzs are cute as heck, they will not replace or be as popular for such a long time as Barbie!
You gotta give it to MGA, they are cutie pies :-)

Oh I agree- they can be adorable- I just think they are a bit much with the make-up and jewlery for the age group bring targeted.

Actually Bratz is way more popular & they rank in more money. I read an artical today on them that was just released.
Barbie is actually not settling for the $100 million from Bratz & is actually trying to get BRATZ banned & never sold again in stores.
From what I hear about this, is it probably will never happen. Barbie is upset they are not ranking in the money anymore & Bratz is.
Barbie has admited that they have dropped 17% in sales since Bratz arrived i 2001.
It's childish & selfish...
But the judge is leaning more for MGA right now. So we might not have to worry & Bratz will continue to sell regardless of what Barbie thinks.
