I know that cats always like to sleep in the sun. I wonder why they do. I mean, all that fur would make me too warm.
Does your cat do what mine do?
Why do they do that anyway?

My two kittens love to sleep in the sun the other day it was 80 degrees in the house I couldn't bring myself to turn the air on yet and my kitties were laying right in the ray of sun shinning in the house! I thought my goodness they have to be hot but they seemed comfortable.

Well, since kitties love warm and fuzzy things, I guess the sun is the next best thing.
My Calico, (Scoots) loves the sun, and on Sundays when I take my little nap on the couch, as soon as she sees me get my blankie, she claims her spot on it. Sometimes she settles down before I do, then of course you don't want to disturb them so you settle down the best you can.

I've had lots of cats over the last 50+ years and they've all been sun-worshippers in fact it's rare to see them lying in the shade!
The fur insulates them from the heat as well as the cold and I think unlike some humans (myself included) they DO move into the shade if they get too hot!
Animals have a higher body temperature than us too so probably don't feel the heat quite as much as we do.
At least they are sensible and not being too energetic unlike a dog walking or playing in the sun! In summer I restrict their exercise to the coolest parts of the day and only let them out to toilet in the middle of the day. It doesn't stop them finding the brightest patch of floor to lie on though and often I have a German Shepherd and 2 cats all trying to occupy the same space!
I love seeing an animal sprawled out with its belly exposed and its legs in the air! It means they feel secure and happy in the enviroment!

Yea, my cat likes to sleep in the sun, but the other strange thing she does is sleep upstairs, where it's always really hot compared to the rest of the place. I don't understand why she does it. With that fur coat on her, you think she'd be sweating her tushie off - LOL!

I think they like the warmth. My cat doesnt go outside but he can often ve found in a sunspot in the house. The dog often joins him. It is cute to see them sleeping in their sunspot.

I believe their fur helps to insulate their skin from the heat like it does from the cold. I have a cat who loves to sleep part in the sun and part in the shade so her front half is gray and her back half is a different shade of gray. She's been doing this for a long time so maybe she doesn't like for her face to be hot.

My kittie, also loves to sleep in the sun, and when the sun goes down, or shifts directions, she will still find the sunniest spot on the floor to curl up.Hmmm
