how do you get referrals?

For the websites I use to make money I make a significant amount just by using the website but I thought it would pay off to get referrals.
Theres people who get hundreds of referrals a month and I'm not sure how to network enough to do it.
Got any ideas?

I have tried some of the referal program and the only place that I got referal from so far is mylot and I have never had any referal before I posted some of the links under my profile page. Not many of them are active, but I think I have got 3 active referal from mylot within 2 weeks after having mine referal link up in profile page.

The only good way that i know to get referrals, is to talk to friends and family, as i'm a member of many sites that almost EVERYONE is already a member of.
