big brother big sister program

So I am part of the big brother big sister program. I have recently gotten a new "little" brother. his aunt was just diagnosed with cancer.( not really sure what type yet) And he has a lot of questions about it. How do you explain such a horrible dissease to such a young child...He is only six years old.. I am familiar with cancer and lukimia because I recently had both and had a bone marrow transplant to get rid of it...(i am in remission) but i just dont know how to explain every thing to some one so young... any i deas??

Mike, I have a suggestion for you, call Hospice they actually have childrens literature that will help you do this if you feel you need to. I also believe that have many outlets for the kids. Hope this helps!

I think that at this point, you cant really give him all of the information, seeing as hes still young and vulnerable. i think that the only way to go about telling a six year old about cancer, is esspecially since hes not YOU child, is just to let him know, that his aunt is very sick, and tell him that she will be okay, or if you dont feel comfortable with that, are his parents around? ask them what you should say... it may be that his parents dont even want him knowing about it.
