I read very few books . Lately I have started feeling that reading is a very good habit and have started taking up the daunting task of reading serious books of my interest .But I have found lackin in speed . Do you think a man of my age 37 years can start such a habit ?

I don't see why age would matter at all. You can start reading at any time.

Age shouldn't deter you. If you find books that you're really interested in, it should be easy to develop the habit of reading.

Of course you can start the habit, but I wouldn't start by reading the really heavy stuff like Ulysses or Moby Diick. You should start by reading books that interest you but which have a lower comprehension level than a lot of the classics do. I teach reading, and what I tell my students is that the ability to read and comprehend well comes with practice. Keep at it, and you'll pick up speed and comprehension which will make reading a much more enjoyable experience for you.

Age is irrelevant, in my opinion. If you want to start a habit that's easy to follow, try visiting this website: www.dailylit.com There you can sign up to receive a free daily email that will contain a snippet of a classic book (that you choose). That way you can develop the habit of reading a piece of classic literature each day, just by reading your email.
