Is theft a big problem at Flea Markets?

I make jewellery and I was planning to take it to a local flea market to try to sell it sometime. I was just planning on getting a table until someone told me that I needed to put my things in a glass box so that people could see but not touch, in order to try to prevent the stuff from getting stolen. This seems really extreme to me. People go to flea markets and steal from the people there, mostly selling thier personal belongings to try to make a few extra bucks? Are people really that disgusting? I guess that's a dumb question, I watch the news, I know people are sick, but still. What is it like where you are? Is theft a big problem for people who sell things at flea markets there?

I would get a cheap piece of plexi glass if you can't find a glass box and put it over - maybe get cheap wood at home depot & have the guys there cut it for you if you don't have a saw & then nail them all together to form a box and then glue the plexi glass on top. I have done a good bit of flea market vending and while I don't believe I've ever had anything stolen the people here are like vultures...you really have to know how to wheel and deal with them to make sure they don't try to rip you off.

That's a good idea, I don't plan to do alot of bargaining. I have my stuff priced and that's the price it is. It's not second hand stuff it's jewellery that I made, and I've priced it very reasonably.

A thief is a thief no matter whether it's a flea market or not. Years ago I had towels stolen off my backyard clothesline.Sometimes things need to be nailed down. I believe where there is anything exposed to the public it may be stolen.

That reminds me, I once had my bath mat stolen off my laundry line outside my back door when I lived in the city. People suck.

Thieves are problem everywhere. Whether it is a flea market or a shop. I would advise you to follow the instruction that was given to you. There are persons who will take your things and tell you that they already paid you. People are dishonest and if they see something that they need desperately they will tried to con you. So if you are still interested to go and sell you should go. Just be careful.

Thanks for you response and your concern. I am thinking maybe I will stick to yard sales with friends for now. Until I get a box anyway.
