do you lose your earning for sending private messages?

No, you don't lose money for posting PMs (nor do you earn any). The reason for what happened is in the FAQ: Why do my earnings fluctuate? * From time to time it is necessary for myLot to recalculate earnings for the month to curb users trying to game the system. Our proprietary earnings algorithm periodically recalculates all estimated daily earnings for the previous month to take into account posts that have been deleted in the abuse and moderation processes. * During the recalculation of earnings some users with lower-quality contributions will see a decrease. Any money deducted from users due to our abuse and moderation processes is then reallocated to myLot users based on certain qualitative factors. Due to this, earnings will fluctuate. * myLot members who have a decrease in earnings have had one or more posts deleted throughout the month. The main reason for this could be that you started a discussion that violated our guidelines or terms, that you responded to, or commented on, a discussion that violated our guidelines or terms, or that a comment you made on a blog article or news story violated our guidelines or terms. * Please become familiar with our myLot Guidelines and Terms of Use to avoid the possibility of having your posts deleted in the abuse and moderation processes. * myLot does not reward low-quality contributions, or even worse, attempts to game the earnings algorithm. * Remember, your earnings are all estimated until paid.

Has this happened to you before? I've been sending and receiving and then replying to personal messages here in myLot and reading this discussion you started made me think about it. I wasn't able to take notice before but as you implied, I do seem to have lost a few cents after and exchange with a new acquainted friend here in this site. Then again, I have read a couple of discussions where members state their points going down as well as some earnings decreasing but, the system must be upgrading and the minimal changes in our stats are just slight irregularities that maybe straigthened out once everything is usual again.

I don't think so. However, I do see a fluctuation in earnings - mine just dropped a few cents. I wonder if it's because of a change in the earning calculation or because of some thread deletion. My only complain is that I wish they were more transparent about the whole earning system. :S

I'm glad you brought this up buddy. I don't send a lot of private messages, but I do from time to time. Lately, I've been trying to conduct my own research on how much each entry can potentially earn me, so I really count the number of sentences per post I make vis-a-vis my earnings. My earnings didn't drop after sending some private messages. I think the only bad side to using private messaging is that you don't earn from the effort you make to type a message to your friend. However, if you need to discuss private matters such as email addresses, then that's the best way to go.
