I haven't tried Triond or ApSense yet so can't speak for those. Of AC and Helium, AC is definitely the higher earner if you can write at all well. If your content is unique from what they already have, you will get an upfront payment along with continuing earnings from page views called a performance bonus. Helium only pays for views and from my understanding most people only average about .10 cents per article per month for earnings. I've only got a few pieces there and haven't been back in months so I'm not sure where mine are at.

Associated Content doesn't have a minimum payout for the upfront payments. Once you've accepted an offer, they pay you for it. The performance bonus is a minimum of $1.50 the last I know, at least. That will rollover until you reach the minimum and then you'll get paid.
This is actually what brought AC back to my attention. I hadn't written anything for them since November and all of a sudden I got paid a couple of weeks ago for performance bonuses. Was only a few dollars but it reminded me that AC is another source of income for me.

Of the four you listed, I've made more money from AC than the others. But if you really want to make money online, you need to use several different places because one of them will take something another one won't. It's like writing for hard copy magazines, they're all a little different.

I am a member of Helium and AC.
Helium aggravates me. The payout (in my experience) is minimal.
My first article on AC sold for $7.50. Not bad. But not all of my articles sell for that amount and not all articles are accepted for payment. In that case, I publish them for performance payment only and still make money off of them.
If I can fix whatever problem caused an article to be rejected for payment, I will re-submit it and many times it has been accepted for payment.
AC generally doesn't pay for poetry unless it's great poetry. They want original, clear, concise articles.
"How To" articles are big. So if you are considering a step by step "How to make this Dish" then go for it!
Good luck to you! I look forward to reading your' articles!
BTW... AC is only one avenue for youe articles. Use several different sources to publish your' work. You are your' own agent. It's up to you to promote yourself. Good Luck!

Personally, I've made money faster on Associated Content. Although I am still pretty new, but my income seems to be rising more and more everyday. My Helium is not like that at all. Plus, I need to to find a good way to send referrals out. I'm having trouble getting my work read. I've signed up with a lot of them so I'd have an income from every site. I think it's best to do it that way.

There also is IP. They give you upfront and page views just like AC but don't pay as frequently. However, since they are newer they still accept articles that AC thinks are too broad and already covered in their library of articles.

Associated Content I write for them. It seems you have to have flawless grammer there though.
I have been turned down for simple grammer . Just gets annoying.I have wrote over 100 pieces and they turn down most. I am more of your fast writing types and poet . Think I will stick to poetry.
