I have a MacBook.
Chose it because I wanted to change away from Windows and I don't know much about Linux. Basically the idea was to get a laptop to work on, that could be as safe as possible and as fast as possible.
Using windows requires either a machine with a lot of processing power or the anti-virus/spamm/trojans and all sorts of things get the performance down under.
As I don't need a laptop to play games I took what I think it was the smart choice and bought a machine that gives me all I need for a decent price with more stability and safety.

Hello sircaido
Does Mac need anti-virus? Most people like to think not.
I have read a bit around the web and found that a very small percentage of people that use mac have an anti-virus installed.
Why?
99% (or more) of the virus attack *.exe files. As Mac OS doesn't use files with an .exe extension they can't attack.
Why I don't have an anti-virus on my Mac?
From all my reading I got to know there is 1 dangerous virus for Mac that can harm your system. To damage the system though he needs you to grant it access to the system. Basically, a box will pop up asking for your administrator password and if you refuse to enter it, the virus can't attack your system and damage it. :)
I don't know about you, I have the bad habit of trying new software to make daily things easier. With free software out there I believe the right choice is to take advantage of it, try it, use it and when it is good support it.
Due to this habit of mine it was very easy to adapt to the Mac OS X Tiger that I have installed on my MacBook. I used Windows for some 10 years and am using Mac OS X for 4 months and I really think Mac OS X is easier to work with. Easier to install software, easier to remove it. If we were to compare the user ratio on Mac and Windows I believe Mac would have a lot more free software available than Windows.
At the moment I am only using free software on my MacBook and I have from OpenOffice (that I already used before on Windows), a productivity suite that can be used at home or the office, to Inkscape, a vector graphic editor. All this software is free to download, install and use. Not to mention the amount of applications that you can use just to make your life simpler, faster and more efficient called widgets that range from a calculator, to gmail notifier, the stats of everything on your Mac (CPU usage/temperature/battery/fan speed/network/etc) that you can download, configure like you need/want and that you can reach just by pressing F12.
If you have a friend/acquaintance that owns/uses a Mac and Mac OS X asking to show you how it works. You will be surprised.
No one knew how to use windows when they first saw it.
Some people even blocked when they saw Windows Vista for the first time.
and a bonus. ;)

My personal laptop is an Acer. I chose it because I disliked how dell treated my sister when she ordered hers (she ordered it..it came not even the model on the bill and she had to fight to get the right model then it was missing things she had added on and had to fight for that)
I'm not fond of ibm's looks when i bought my laptop they were square black and very boxy.
The acer i chose had good reviews and was very sleek & modern looking. Also We stock acers at work and we had had very few come back in with issues. As well my laptop was in my price range at the time..with better specs than other brands in the same range.

Hello Saundyl thank you for responding my post. So I think you are satisfied with your Acer, well good for you my friend.
By the way about your sister, a bad experience happen isn't right? And she really fight for here rights and I think it is the right thing to do. But I'm sure some Dell's personnel are nice too.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satelitte 115 that I bought it from my cousin for just a few bux. It's not really my choice since I bought it because it is cheap (a 2nd hand from my cousin) and it was just slightly used.
So far, I'm very satisfied with the performance of this laptop that it had never failed me yet with my online activities. But if I have to choose a brand new laptop that I will buy, I will be choosing an Acer laptop. It's one of the best quality laptops and it has a lot of service centers here in my city. The price id also a big factor since it's price is slightly lower compared to other branded laptops, but the performance and features are the same. Some features even better with Acer.

I use a HP DV1000. It has an amazing configuration and most important is the fact that its lightweight. Portability & compatibility with the applications I use frequently are the two things I look for in a notebook. Apart from this I also chose this due to the easy availability of HP service centers around my locality. Although I've had to take the notebook to the service center only once in the last two years.

We used to have dell and we used it for more than 7 years. We replace it with IBM thinkpad. IBM is better because it is available world wide and it has 3 years international warranty. Dell only available in some countries. And then I bought another one for myself, an HP. It has 12 inches screen and it is so small and light. HP is also better than dell because it is available world wide, has 1 year international warranty, and cheaper than dell.
