Government corruption it's happen at Indonesia too. The earlier is the worst. But now Indonesia trying to fight the corruption with built a special department of anti corruption, which is now chasing government ant catch one by one who turning all the money for the masses. I think it's a big step and i am raising my two thumbs up for my government. Many been catch and being trial at the court room at everyday television news.
some relieve for me and Indonesian people. I hope This will continue until we can build the Indonesian economy problem. It's another step. Big step ahead.
I hope your government will take action against corruption in your country. Good Luck asawanialvin0611!

I think whenever you get such a concentration of power, you are bound to get some form of corruption or other. It takes a person with very strong character to be able to resist power.
I also think it depends on what defines corruption. For most people corruption is always about money. When people look at corruption in a country they always look at things like whether you have to pay countless bribes to government officials and the way in which government contracts are awarded. Its not surprising that less developed countries like Bangladesh, India, Indoesia and Nigeria have this type of corruption - civil servants are badly paid and use the little power their position to earn a big on the side.
But I think corruption is more than just about money. Its more about power. For example, in Singapore we have NO corruption. Our government officials are well paid and the punishments against recieving a bribe are so harsh, its simply not worth getting involved in.
However, you do have instances where certain things happen because, well you know what's good for you? Its like you would not write or publish an article that a politician did not want you to publish. You don't want to risk being sued for slandering a politcian because you may be sued for libel and although there's no evidence - it seems quite coincidental that the politician never loses a libel case. Would you call that corruption or just a case of extreme good luck?

I think that corruption is alive and well in Government. One of the biggest forms of corruption is the earmarks. Senator Obama was elected to the senate and his wife received a big promotion and raise. A few months later the Hospital received a $1,000,000.00 grant through an earmark from Senator Obama. He is not the only one, there is a congressman in WV who was elected to the House with a net value of just over $100,000.00, after a couple of terms in congress his net worth was over $4,000,000.00. What he did was set up a non profit organization and it is run by his wife. Every program in his district is run through this non profit. How it works is the administrative group get anywhere for 5% to 20% of the total grant to oversee the programs. No accountability because administrative cost are hard to track and so easy to inflate.
The best way to end it is to put in term limits. Or you can vote them out. I will vote for a person and when start to vote for biggergovernment and more spending I vote for someone new.
