Do you use a "pen name" or alias, or prefer using your real name?

Some writers didn't like revealing their true name that they use a pen name (also called pseudonym or nom de plume) in their writings for various reasons. There are famous writers in history who became famous not with their real name but with their pseudonyms. Do you also use a pen nmae or would you rather reveal your true name?

I use both for writing all over the net. I write under aidenofthetower or Aiden of the Tower and under my real name Danelle Karth. While the pen name gives you more privacy my chosen pen name isn't always well respected since it isn't a "real name" but tends to sound more "screen name-ish" though it is actually a fantasy name.

I haven't done that much writing actually. If I am using my real name (as opposed to my screen name) I generally use my
initials as opposed to my full name. I just prefer it that way.

Hello manaoagmemoirs.
I use my real name about half the time and my pen name about half the time. I don't know why I've split it up that way, it just happened. For the most part, I don't mind revealing my true identity but I do think that on social networking websites like myLot, I might be revealing alot of my personal business.
So, using a pen name is a nice barrier to have in that situation to maintain privacy.

I actually use a pen name that is only a pen name until I get married. I am engaged, so since I would like to be identified by my real name I use my fiance's last name so that I won't have to change it when we get married.

I prefer to use a pen name for many reasons. One of them is that I don't like people who know me reading what I write because of my legal name, as well as a matter of feeling much more secure about my writing when it's under a pseudonym. Another reason is because I dislike my legal name and want to change it.

I use a pen-name because I am parnoid of being stalked.
Though, I pick random ones and people get confused when I tell them.

I fancy using a pen name if I get published. I don't know But I just feel really like an old fashioned writer when I use a pen name.
Probably because a lot of famous writer's use pen names like Mark Twain...

If there is no reason for hiding an identity, I want to identify my self.

I've only recently began to think about my future in writing. I think I want to stick with my real name. That's fine that others want to either hide their identity or just take on something new. I just don't think I want to go by anything else. I don't know why, but I think it will give me some confidence. Who knows.

I have always used my real name, since I was first published in 1969. That doesn't mean I'll never use a pen name, though. I think I might if I ever do memoirs - and I'll make sure I change all other names too. Or, like some authors who are exploring a genre different than the one that made them famous, I might use one then.

i write poetry for our school's publication in highschool and i'm always under a pen name since most of the things i write is against our school's admin :D
also if people would know i wrote them, i don't think they'll even believe since silent water runs deep and i'm loud as hell. LOL
