I know...how funny is that? I always get so wrapped up in the characters in the books that I read. That is not uncommon. But, I am a little over 100 pages from finishing a book by an author that is new to me and, I had to share with you how I feel about a character in that book even before I finish it because, it is so well written that, I have become smitten with this character.
The book is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The character is Edward. I won't be specific because I don't want to ruin the big reveal about him in the book, for you. But, I will say that he is so charming and dangerous and, the object of his affection is so devastatingly smitten with him that, as I read what she feels, thinks and says about him, it takes me back to how I felt when I was smitten by someone back in school. That first blush of attraction to someone. The excitement, nervousness, anticipation and anxiety one feels when you let your mind wander and think about that person. When you see them. When you expect to see them but they aren't there and the disappointment you feel when you don't get to see them. I remember those days fondly. And, Stephenie Meyer makes me feel that way about Edward. LOL! I miss him for his object of affection when he is away from her. There is such a feeling of anticipation each and every time they touch that, I wanted to scream each time they got close to kissing and didn't! Ugh! I can't believe how frustrated that made me feel for Bella (the object of Edward's affection). LOL!
So, how about you? Have you ever been so wrapped up in the character or characters in the books that you have read that you actually felt almost smitten with one of them? Or, am I just a strange bird? LOL!

LOL! Trust me you are not alone.
I haven't read Twilight yet, but it is definitely on my TBR list. As a reader, and most especially into paranormal romances, it is so easy to be so captivated by characters. Right now, my current obsession, along with hundreds of women, is JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood warrior vampires. We all have our pick among the brothers, and it drive hubbies mad how wives would read these books over and over.
Yes, it is funny, but it can so fun to be obsessed with an gorgeous alpha-male character.
Enjoy...and sweet dreams with your Edward.

LOL! Good! I am glad to know I am not crazy or weird! LOL! And, after I read the trilogy, soon to be a Quartet by Stephenie Meyer, I might have to pick up one of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books. I have never heard of them before but, they sound fun!
I also like Sherrilyn Kenyon's reads too. Have you read any of her stuff? She can make you smitten a little with her characters too! But, not like Stephenie Meyer. I have never been this smitten with a character in a book before. And, like I said...I always get attached to the characters but, whew...she has written him so well that I can picture him and he has cast a spell on me.
And, have you then also read others of Stephenie Meyer's books since you indicated that you just haven't read Twilight yet?

If you like vampire books, you have to read JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. There are 5 books already out and the 6th is coming out this June 3rd.
I've read Kenyon Dark Hunters, and I like some than others. I prefer Christine Feehan with her Carpathians series. Also check out her Ghostwalker series. There are many good paranormal romance series out there but the BDB for me is top of the list.
I have not read any Stephanie Meyer's book yet, but I'm working on it.

Wonderful! Thank you for the suggestions! I'll look into them. I have the one I am working on right now from Stephenie Meyer and, somehow I knew I'd like her stuff so, I had the foresight of mind to get the other two books in this particular series, and another one I saw by her so, those are waiting to be read in my bookshelf. Then I have another 5 books beside those that I have set aside until I am ready for them. LOL! I went on a book buying frenzy a month or so ago! LOL! But, I read a lot so, they will be done in no time!
Thank you again for your suggestions!

That is so cool! I can't believe you knew it before you even read my discussion! It is really cool to know that he managed to dazzle someone else to the point that you knew before reading my discussion who I was going to refer to. Wow! That speaks volumes about Stephenie Meyer as an author that 2 people actually feel the same way about one of her characters! Yup...dazzling! LOL!

Have you seen the previews for the movie yet? If you go to Stephenie Meyer's official site she has links to the little clip for it and there is one longer clip I found online, I think on her site, where the actors talk about their characters in between some of the scenes. OMG! I can't wait! It really looks good!

I do the same thing, so I guess we can be strange birds together. My husband has said before, "I feel like I am competeing with so and so in your book". I've told him before, "Right now he's winning, you better try a little harder". Haha.

Vanyel Ashkevron in the Heralds of Valdemar series. I read it years ago and my heart still flutters a bit when I think about him.
What kind of books do you read? I havent heard of Twilight yet.
These days I am reading for school more than pleasure, but when I do actually get the chance to read something of my own chooseing, you will find me in the Sci Fi section, pouring over dragons, witches, magic and sorcery.

I will make you a deal. I'll pick up Twilight when I go to Barnes and Noble this weekend, if you try to get through at least half of my favorite book of all times:
Exiles: The Ruins of Ambrai
By Melanie Rawn
Its an air tight saga about Lenfell, a planet where women are in charge. Women run the government, school, military, their houshold - the works. Men are expected to raise the children and maintain the household.
Mixed in with that you have the classic magic workers - good verses evil, world domination, romance, betrayal, murder, revenge... yada yada yada.
By the way. The women who run this world are not dainty little princesses. They are cut throat, power hungry, ruthless, twisted politicians. It's fascinating!
It is not everyones cup of tea, but its deffinatly an interesting read. Everyone I have recomended it to has eaten it up - all 800 pages of it!
Let me know if you get around to giving it a try :)

Deal! It sounds really great! It sounds like something I would eat up too! And, 800 pages is really not that bad. I love a big, huge juicy read! I read a lot! A lot a lot! So, 800 pages doesn't scare me and, the way you described it sounds really fun! So, that is a deal! And, I will let you know when I read it. I have 8 other books in my book shelf that I have to get through but, I think I might finish the 3 others that I have by Stephenie Meyer first and then I will delve into Exiles: The Ruins of Ambrai By Melanie Rawn. I am already emailing this title to myself to make sure that I can find it when I go to the bookstore the next time.

That is how I feel about Edward in Twilight! I just want to read more and more about him. I only have about 30 or less pages of my book left to go and than I will delve into the next book in the series! I can't wait but, at the same time, if Edward isn't in the next one in the series, I might miss him! LOL!

Ya..it happens all the time. The book you are reading seems like a romantic kind of novel and thus the emotional highs you experience while reading it..

Actually, the book that I was reading, I finished it last night and it was great, isn't a romantic novel. It does have passion and emotion with romance in it but, it is more a long the lines of supernatural, scifi, horror with the added bonus of romance. But, a good book with have emotional highs and lows.

Yup! I think you might be right! It would be illegal for you to fall for one of the Harry Potter characters! LOL!
And, I am glad to know that I am both a strange bird and normal at the same time! It makes me feel multi-dimensional! LOL! And, at least I am not alone! LOL!

I do not think that I have ever been smitten with a character in a book, but I certainly know what you mean when you say it. When a book is really good it can seem so real and can be really frustrating sometimes when you are reading it, and you want to see how things turn out but cannot read it quickly enough.
I have just started reading a book called "The other Boleyn Girl" (I think that is what it is called) there is a film now out about it. From the first page it has sucked me in and I have only read a few pages and it is looking like a brilliant read.

I have heard of that movie! You'll have to let me know how you liked the book so I can decide whether I want to add it to my collection!
And, what you described is pretty much how I feel except that I feel even more attached to the character of Edward than normal! LOL!

Oh yes I have often fallen for fictional characters. Mr Rochester, Mr Darcy, Heathcliffe and there are others I have felt a definite attraction to. I can often readily identify myself with a female character in a novel too.
It is an indication that a book is well written when the characters really live for you and you become emotionally involved in the plot.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one that falls for fictional characters in books! LOL! And, I actually consider the fact that I can really feel for a character as the mark of a good book, great writing, and a worthy author. I have two key factors that I like to see in a book. If the book has the ability to make me laugh out loud, it is automatically the mark of good writing for me. And, the second factor is if I actually well up with tears while I am reading. Stephenie Meyer has succeeded in pulling both of those factors off and, as an added bonus, she has made me smitten for Edward! LOL! She is brilliant!

There are alot of us strange birds if that is the case. I read alot, horror, sci-fi you name it. Characters that I feel for, Authors that I'm crazy about. I get so involved that I start talking to them. When King was writing the gunslinger(Dark Tower) series I was terribly worried about my poor characters. Anthony and the Xanth series what quest from mad magician Humphrey. Evanovivh and the Plum series that poor kids giving my grey hair. No friend there are alot of us strange birds.

LOL! I like Stephen King but I haven't read any of the Dark Tower series. My favorite author is Dean Koontz and I love the Christopher Snow series and the Odd Thomas series by him. I am very attached to their characters. But, not like Edward in Twilight. LOL! I am glad to know that I am not the only strange bird out there! LOL!

I'm happily married, but there are some heroes that worm their way into your heart. Jamie Fraser is one of them. He is the husband of the main character in The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. He's the kind of man any woman would be proud to own. :)
