Hello! I don't know if you have seen my discussions about my wisdom tooth! I had one of mine removed a couple of weeks ago. I think they came from about when I was 18 or so, but they grow pretty randomly - a little bit now and then. I am 28 years old now. They don't necessarily hurt when they grow, mine grew without to much problems. Of course, there can be some inconvenience with the gum and also if you have "too many" teeth, it can be painful since the wisdom teeth then takes room and pushes the other teeth aside or against eachother. However, apparently not every one get wisdom teeth these days. The dentist said that the wisdom teeth will be "removed" from our genes in a few generations. The reason is that the wisdom teeth were used back in the stone age etc when we ate raw meat and rough vegetables and used our teeth as knives etc. Then we needed the strong teeth that came after the first ones had been worn down. Now when we do not use those teeth anymore they are not useful, and are not needed for survival. For this reason already some people lack wisdom teeth, and in the future even less people will have that "gene". It is pretty interesting how we adapt to our new lives, isn't it!

"Evolving" - that's the word I was looking for! Thank you. Sometimes my brain just time out with certain words in English. Thanks for the best response!

we really do not need a wisdom tooth but unfortunately it grows usually in your 20's fortunately for you, you do not have one yet or you probably think you haven't got one yet. i just had a painful bout with my wisdom tooth last week and the pain was indescribable. once i got the time, i will visit me dentist and have them pulled out..ouch!

I had all mine by the time I was 20, the bottom two gave me enormous problems, there wasnt quite enough room and I got repeated infections in the gum around as they gre through, was incredibly painful when the infections hit, to the point I couldnt sleep. The teeth themselves coming through was sore but not awful and the top ones didnt hurt at all because there was plenty of room for them. THe bottom ones hurt because there was no room. I ended up having a general anasthetic (they wanted to do local but have a fear of needles cant have them near my mouth while awake thats for sure!!) and had them removed, which actually didnt hurt at all.
