Would you bike 42 miles to work everyday?

I have no problems with people ditching their cars and biking to work instead. It's saving money, it's better for the environment and it's helping keep people healthy. So really if you enjoy it, why not do it? I just came across this news video on CNN of a guy that begins his day at 5AM in the morning. He gets ready for work, gets his bike and what he needs for work and begins a 42 mile journey on his bike. This takes him 3 hours to accomplish because he's biking. However, because he's been doing it the entire month of May, he's actually saved over $400. His wife seems pretty happy because now they can spend that money on food instead of his work commute. If you'd like to see the video you can watch it here: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2008/05/30/christian.bike.to.work.kero Would you bike to work 42 miles everyday to save gas money? Do you feel that saving over $400 one month in gas is definitely worth the trouble? Would you consider biking a long distance to work if you knew it wouldn't be a taxing ride? Personally if I knew I wouldn't have to climb many hills or anything I wouldn't mind doing some long term biking. It's save me a lot of money and it's a lot better for the environment.

Wow..he must be in really great condition to bike ride for 3 hours and for a 42 mile journey...I don't even think when I was younger I ever bike-rode that long or far, so I do have to admire him for that, and at least there is one great benefit and that's saving so much money for gas

I know. I'm young and I know there is no way I could travel that far. Not on a bike at least. I'd hit too many hills and then I'd give up and have someone come pick me up, LOL.

If it was a straight shot, no hills or anything then I probably would. I mean, come on! That extra money he saved could pay other bills or what not. That's worth it I think. And he's healthier for it too.

HI angel, I will be glad also doing this...I can save plus it's healthy for me! I have an uncle who is doing like this until he retired and they were able to send all their 5 kids in College being a full time student! I am even trying to think about this when I will get a job..I don't care how people will react on this since I know a lot of my friends will criticize at first! LOL!

That's cool! One problem of the world today is the pollution caused by vehicles and consumption of gas. I guess if everybody would ride a bike to work, we can save a lot of money, lessen the pollution and have a better lifestyle. I heard that once in china eveybody used bikes and there was only a small population of cars. Those were the good old days but now wherever you go in the city pollution hugs you and kills you slowly. Cheers for the 42 mile biker!

I personally think this sounds like a great idea! Not only is he saving on the money he spends on gas but he is also burning calories and getting in great shape! I was thinking of doing the same thing and even inquired if the gym in the building had a shower...and it does! My trek won't take me 42 miles but I will get in better shape all while saving money...hmm. Throw in the idea of the environment and it sounds like a super deal!

Yes,I think all of us should do it as possible as we can. It's not only good for our envirement but also for ourselves. We also can have a heathy body according that.So let's do it together. Now,I always go to class by food and I think it's very fine.

Heck no I wouldn't or lets just say I couldn't bike 42 miles to work everyday there and back. Seems like his wife doesn't see him much either biking 3 hours there and 3 hours back after work. Maybe he can find someone to share the cost of driving that works at the same place or atleast in the same direction and just be dropped off or get a bike holder installed on vechicle and ride the rest of the way but that is just to far to go. Yeah money is good and it is helping the environment but I would say he couldn't keep that up along time or he would be heading for a heart attack because 42 miles is just ot much. If it was within less then 5 miles yeah I would consider it or atleast no more then 7, if I tried to do more I wouldn't be worth anythign at work I would be to tired to function properly throughout the day and my work would suffer for it. So it can have good and bad effects.

No way! Seriously that would take forever to get to work and by the time i got there i'd be too achy and tired to want to do anything! Having said that my workplace isn't that far away anyway, it's only like 5 miles away or something.

He must be in really good shape! That would take a He-man to accomplish! I hope his wife understands the tremendous physical toll such an activity would have on her spouse's body. I'm sure she wouldn't do the same if she had the job. As for the environment, I think that it's a good idea to use a bike or smaller car instead of a larger SUV or Van. We have a very small car to use for work and errands and use less than $10 weekly on gas or about two and one half gallons of gas. The car doesn't produce lots of pollution and we don't drive many places.
