Well, what were we thinking? A new puppy in the house and wow has life changed. It has been quite some time since we have had to go through this. He is a black lab mix and is going to be a great dog with time. But boy have we forgotten the chewing, whining, piddling... need I say more? He slept with me last night and still has "puppy breath" which I love but heavens, he was like sleeping with a two year old child. Tossed and turned and then tried to play now and then. Pretty cute though, gotta love them!

Yup! I also have a black lab..and one saggy bassett to keep her company! (Two fish, a guinea pig AND a bunny that runs the house!-Noah's Ark here!)
The chewing/teething is wicked! Keep an old shoe or rawhjide bones or pigs ears (Wal-Mart!)around and have your puppy teethe on those. That should help! (They love old shoes, for some reason?)
The whining can be taken care of by jut letting her sleeep on a blanket next to your side of the bed and petting her until the puppy falls asleep! Works every time! (They get lonely? LOL!)
And the piddling? Take the puppy out in the beginning every hour on the hour for a short pee break! In time they'll find the door on thieir own. No problems! Mine learned in only 3 days! Black labs are SMART!
Enjoy! They grow up TOO fast!

He's a baby and sounds cute. Just remember that he's a baby and to be a great adult be patient and give him a great childhood. My sister recently adopted a dachshund/jack terrier puppy and we re-lived puppyhood. We offered to babysit for her when she and her husband had to leave town. Our home looked like a baby lived here. There were toys all over the place, toys to roll, to make noise, to play tug of war with her, to teeth on....and there were puppy pads laid by the back door on those occasions when she didn't get let out to do her business.
When we were unavailable we asked our neice to babysit. She asked for directions and we said, "its a baby, follow her around, play with her, let her outside often to do her business and when she does....PRAISE her big time and most of all follow her around and keep pulling things out of her mouth....like a baby.
She is going to be a great dog but it's taking two household adults and recruited neices and aunts to fill in. Then there is the doggy day care center down the street. She is cute and you gotta love her. She has two switches, ON and OFF. The minute things go quiet, its because she's fallen asleep on the couch and burrowed under a pillow and has two rear feet sticking out. Gotta love them! Great investment.....enjoy!
