Do you write using your left hand or your right hand?
For left-handed persons: is it hard being a left-handed person? have you had experiences in which you see left-handedness as an advantage?
For right-handed persons: do you always view being right-handed as an advantage over left-handed persons? have you ever thought that left-handed persons are special?
in your personal opinion, is there any connection between skills and intelligence and left- or right-handedness?

I am right handed. I think that it is possible that left handed people have an advantage of right handed because it is said that they use a different side of the brain. I'm not certain on this, but I think that if it were true... well i'm not sure how to put it.
I think that people who write with their left hand, are of course born with writing like this. So naturally, growing up they are more knowledgeable in certain aspects then a person with right handed writing.
Happy Postings to you and good luck with your mylotting. Have a great day!

That's true. We may think that they are unique and "talented" because they can write with their left hand. It's not something you see all the time.

and i think for most of the famous left-handed persons, left-handedness added to their popularity. i think they would not be that popular if they have not been left-handed.
but i believe no matter what handedness one has, he can always reach his goal.

Maybe it is because of this uniqueness that we can say they know something we don't. That is why they amuse us.
people would always say "wow, you are left-handed". they amuse people because they are different. they always get this kind of attention.
Have a nice Day!

I was a left-handed when I was in my primary school. I was the only one and everyone talked about it. So, I tried very hard to change to right-handed when I was in secondary school. Finally, I succeed.
Now I am a right-handed when writing, but still left-handed in using tools.

Iam right handed. My youngest son is left handed, but pitches right handed. This is a funny story. My uncle was born left handed and my grandmother was superstitious and said that it showed a sign of being evil.Ha ha!She would hit him till he used his right hand. But,behind her back he would continue to use his left hand. So,he is anidextris I think you call it.I don't know how to spell it.

I am right-handed. While I am right-handed, I can actually write on the board (I am a teacher) using my left hand. I do not really think that being right-handed is an edge over left-handed individuals. I do not know for sure if there is a connection between skills and intelligence and left or right handedness...

good for you. i have always tried to write using my left hand but i can't write legibly and firmly. maybe i'm not trying so hard. writing with my right hand works for and i think i don't need to know how to right with my left hand.
why and how did you learn to write using both hands? is it necessary in your job?

It's not required. I do not know how but I just realized that I can write on the board (legibly) using my left hand. I can't write on paper using my left hand legibly though.

as i try to remember it, most of my teacher can write on the board legibly with both hands. i think it is more convinient in your profession if you can. you can easily position yourself in front of the board such that your students can see what you are writing.

I am right-handed so I have to write with my right hand ,I have tried writing with my left hand but it always ends up looking like I wrote it with my foot, and I dont see being right-handed as being an advantage over left-handed people, since it doesnt matter which hand you write with,we are all human beings, and I dont see a left-handed person as being special, and I think the only real difference is a little bit of your motor skills since I think right-handed peoples motor skills are controlled by the right side of the brain, whereas left-handed peoples motor skills are controlled by the left side of the brain.

I have never been into boxing, but I think it would make sense that left-handed fighters are better boxers, since most fighters are right handed, they are less likely to be prepared for someone who is left-handed to sock them one, have a good day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting my friend.

yes, that would explain it. that would be an advantage for a boxer who is left-handed. but as i think of it, supposing a boxer always fights with a left-handed opponent, that wouldn't be an advantage for the lefty after all.
have a nice day!

I am also a right handed. But when I was a child, I can feel that my left hand is strong that my right hand and I was doing more things with my left hand. But now I think my right hand is stronger now, maybe because I use it a lot. But I am always a righthanded.

I'm a righty and thus far, I don't see any advantage or anything that would make me excel more than a lefty, and vice-versa. It would really depend individually if we would want to hone our skills. As for intelligence, I'm not sure though. As for being special, as for me, I just think everyone's equal on this. Right-handed people may be a lot more than left-handed people, but the difference would only stay at that.

Yeah, I kinda agree with your point there. Although it may not be for everyone, but being unique sometimes brings about motivation to excel.

I was a changed baby. I should have been a left handed child but since we came from a place where people seemed disapproving the usage of left hand, I was forced to learn using my right hand on everything. so basically, I write and eat using my right hand.
I can still write using my left hand but it is on the board only, my left handwriting on papers is worse than my right one, but I can write well just the same on the board (especially the blackboard using chalk).
but to tell you the truth, I wish I had been discipline in keep training my left hand to write on papers, because when my left eye got problem again, when I switched writing with my left hand, I felt better, because I just felt that when I wrote with my left hand, I didn't force my left eye too much.
and I don't think left handed or right handed state made any person special. mostly it is about the brain, some people said "right brain" person was more special because their way of thinking is "against the flow". left handed or right handed, both of these handedness can be a right brain person too, so it's not about the handedness of the person. it is about the dominant brain. :)

I guess today's people are not disapproving anymore of the use of lefthand. And most of the time, I think lefthanded persons receive praises.
I think you should not be forced to write with right hand. And I hope now you are allowed to use your lefthand because it is more easy for your eyes.
Maybe the perception that lefthanded persons think against the flow is because there are only few lefthanded persons than that of righthanded persons. That makes them unique.

I am a lefty. I don't know where it comes from since no one else in my family is a southpaw! I've read all the things they say about us, but I don't feel like I'm more creative than anyone else. All I know is that most tools (like can openers and scissors etc.) are made for right handed people. You just have to learn to adapt or end up spending a lot of money for things made just for lefties.
I actually do think that I'm special - just not for being a lefty. LOL

I am a bit of both actually. I write with my right but anything else I do left handed (guitar, sports, etc etc.) I get made fun of a lot because I can't even play Guitar Hero without having to flip the little guitar upside down and switch the controls.
I've tried and failed miserably and writing with my left hand, so I guess I'm just weird.

i think there are guitars especially designed for left-handed persons.
sometimes i also feel that way. i write with my right hand, but i can feel that my left hand is stronger. so is my left foot. when i am to carry a pail of water, i usually use my left hand.
i also tried to write using my left hand, but it doesn't suit me.

I write using my right hand but if i want i can write quite neatly with my left hand.I feel that lefthanded people can draw pictures better than right handed people but the writing from right handed people is a lot neater than a left handed person.

I have seen many lefthanded person with really neat handwritings. I think they are very careful with their handwriting than the righthanded ones. I have also seen lefthanded persons who draw really good.
What is it in your case, are you good in drawing?

I am that rare person who does some things with his right and some with his left. One thing I hate about writing left hand (the only hand I can write with) is that you follow your writing with your hand and the side of your hand gets covered in pencil or ink. I don't neccessarly think that either is special, but being a lefty in both batting and kicking helps because you get to hit better against most pitchers and you get to play on the left side in soccer where there isn't a lot of competition to play there because only lefties generraly play on the left side.

Right about the writing with left hand thing. I often see left-handed persons with inks on the side of their hand and I would always ask how do they get it. And yes, I think lefties also has advantage in sports because others are not accustomed playing against them therefore they would difficulty beating a left-handed person.

Judging that there are so many actors, actresses, and artists that were or are lefthanded, I believe that lefthanders are way more artistic. I am lefthanded and I find it a great advantage.I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am right handed. My son is lefthanded. I think it is a right handed world. My son is vey mechanical and I am not.
He is spatially oriented and I am not. I am more verbal
he is more into working with his hands. I dont think there is any difference in intelligence between righties and lefties.

i'm a right-handed,but i know some of history's most creative minds have been left-handed.
In the category of art, both Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were left handed. In the category of music, Ludwig van Beethoven was left handed. In the field of science and invention, you find Benjamin Franklin, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. In the field of motion pictures, Charlie Chaplin.
Bobby Fisher, the modern chess genius, is left handed. So too musical geniuses Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and Wynton Marsalis.
Each of the these persons had a mind so exceptional as to be head and shoulders above anyone else in their field. So even though it may be more difficult for a left handed person to live in a right handed world, lefties can know that they are in good company. Beethoven and Einstein had it tough, too.

you always have a very interesting and informative response up your sleeve. thank you very much.
i think maybe their being left-handed also contributed for their being known. history has an eye for peculiarity. do you think if they had been right-handed, would they be still as popular as they are now?

I'm a right-handed person. I used my right hand most of the time but i can also write using my left hand although my penmanship is not as beautiful as when i am using my right hand. I noticed that most left handed people are good in drawing or in arts. I don't know why though . . .

at last, a left-handed respondent! nice to hear that being left-handed is an advantage for you. especially that you can use it in school. you almost made me laugh with your story.
what do you think about the artistic part? is it true for you?
i myself (a right-handed) don't have good penmanship. those left-handed persons i know have good penmanships.
