URGENT! Advice Required!

Ok, I admit my pooch is a bit hyperactive. She is not an indoor dog. Besides, the indoors would drive her mad. I admit she goes around. And now that the monsoons have set in, she leaves muddy tracks all around. Now, something about my neighbors. They have some aversion to my animals. They stoned my cat's leg once. And I have caught them stoning my dog even when she is simply standing by the road doing no harm. Now, the actual problem. This pooch of mine is more active at night than at day. She really moves around then, trespassing into everyone's property. And this morning, my neighbor told me that she dirties their outer porch. I am scared for my pooch. I have no heart to chain her day and night. That would be cruel. And if I give her the freedom she deserves, I can't control her movements. They might stone her or even poison her! How would you deal with this situation? How would you keep your dog within your property? I mean how can you make a pooch understand that she can't trespass on other's property, especially on a disagreeable neighbor's property? Please help because I need to implement your advice immediately! Cheers and happy mylotting!

What a neighbor, who can't enjoy all the activities of the little and innocent ones. Sorry, to say that i categorize your neighbor, below the intellect of your pet ones. It is better to safeguard from them, by keeping them chained, than getting stoned from the hard hearted people. As told by others in their responses, if it possible to make fence try to build one, if not just chain, it. Take care friend.

Thanks for the response. I chained her up for one day and one night, and she felt so sad that she began refusing food. I can't subject a dog to such cruelty just because she ran over a woman's porch with muddy legs. I will put her in when I go to sleep at night and let her out in the morning. Cheers and happy mylotting!

I can imagine the sorry and sad looks it will have, when we chain it. Because we had a dog, some years back in our house, and it is very similar to your pet one. It is so ferocious and it likes to remain free all time. Luckily we live in an individual house, that have compound walls, and we used to set them free all day long. And only time we put him in chain is that when some one happened to visit our house. But even this he ( dog) don't likes it, and will remain grim faced, and will pose lot of sorrowful looks, that which deciphers a lot of feelings to us..

Protect your animal with a proper fence and go over to Expert Village and Dogster to obtain some more advice about her hyper-activity... http://www.expertvillage.com http://www.dogster.com I love animals, and I never want to see harm come to them! :)

Other than roping in your neighbours to teach her that their porch isn't an acceptable place for her NICELY, I hate to say that I don't think there's much you can do. If you had a good relationship with your neighbours I'd suggest giving them a high powered water pistol to squirt at your dog, as a bit of discouragement. It won't hurt her, but she won't be too keen either. I have a dog who used to run free, but she developed a liking for other people's chickens so unfortunately she has to be chained all the time now. I feel desperately sorry for her as it is not what she's used to and her brother still runs free. But it's better than allowing her loose where she'd get herself into trouble and probably shot.

Hi GreenMoo, thanks for the response. Well, I don't see eye to eye with my neighbors. They would rather kill my poor pooch. She is NOT a trouble maker. She is only too curious for her own good. But she has not harmed anyone. People just dislike animals in this area. I have been thinking it over, and I don't see the point in punishing my poor pooch just coz someone gave a baseless complaint. I mean, they did not SEE her dirtying their porch. They only THINK that she did. Right now, I am on the war path. If anyone harms my dog here, I guess I will give them a real tough time. Cheers and thanks for responding! :)

If you have the money, you could put up a fence or get one of those invisible fence things but other than that the only thing I can think of is to either try and give your dog freedom only at certain times or try to watch the dog when it is roaming freely. You could also try to train it not to go into other yards but depending on how old it is, it might be too late. If you catch your neighbors harming your pet or your pet is harmed and you know they did it (and you can prove it), I suggest you call the police. If you can prove it then you have yourself an animal cruelty case. Don't give your neighbors any more chances.
