I have a hummingbird feeder and the humming birds visit it all year round.Silly sounding maybe but I talk to them and they have no fear of me because I sit just a few feet from the hummingbird feeder.I just wanted to mention that today when I was watering the plants a hummingbird flew up to the water comming out of the hose trying to get some water mist on him so he could take a bath.He would come to the hose get some mist, fly away, come back and do it again. It did this several times,it was so cute.Eventually after the hummingbird got enough mist on him from the hose,he then flew up in a tree and took his bath, shaking his body. Several years ago I heard a bird making a comotion outside.I went outside to check it out and it was on the neighbors house.I held up my finger like a perch and said come here.Well, the bird came down and landed on my head.I then cupped my hand over its body and brought it down off my head.It was a chickadee. It wasn't even afraid and didn't struggle in my hand.I brought it to my neighbors house because she specialized in taking care of sick birds, getting them well then releasing them. She said the bird was dehydraded. She took care of the bird and got him rehydrated and then let him loose in the same area.

I had a cat that regularly caught and killed things. One day, I noticed that he'd killed a blue jay, and I was cleaning it up when he brought back a baby blue jay. I took that one from him and found him a few hours later on the porch playing 'cat and bird' with another baby that was still alive. The baby still had it's pins and had a nice big wound under his wing. I didn't think he would live, but I took him inside because I felt so awful about my cat slaughtering his family anyway. I fed him chicken and beef baby food and the pellets that you soak to move baby birds from soft food to hard food for a few weeks and slathered neosporin all over the wound until it healed. I'd come home every day, and there'd be a puffed up, squealing baby bird flapping wildly at me to feed him. He rode around on a towel on my shoulder when I was home. By the time he was able to fly off, he was a big, fat, healthy bird. We'd see him occasionally, after he went his way, and I think being handfed turned him into the king of jays! He'd land, every now and again on the rocking chair on the front porch, and he was quite the regal figure and probably had at least 6" of height on the other blue jay males I've seen.

Long ago, one of my very first photographs was of me being chased by a flock of swallows... They didn't want their picture taken by an amateur, I guess! LOL!

One year I was playing with my kids in the backyard. Our Golden Retriever walked over and looked up at me. I asked "Bailey what is it? Do you have something in your mouth?" Goldens are known for their soft mouths. Bailey opened up her mouth and out popped a tiny robin that had fallen from its nest. Not one single feather was ruffled. Bailey was a bit confused over my exuberance. She looked to me as if to say "What? I'm only doing my job!"

my twin sister just got married two weeks ago. they had this dove releasing ritual of which my 4 year old cousin joyfully witnessed. to our surprise, he single handedly caught one of them. he held the dove from the hotel until we reached our house. he looked so cute holding that dove. now, the dove finds dwelling in our backyard. and it seems that she loves it. she flies...but returns eventually.

I was with my girlfriend at her university in Bucharest's center and i had a pack of sunflower seeds especially prepared for the occasion; We went near the pigeons that were currently feed by a woman with bread and we started throwing the seeds towards them - the first time they flew away, the second time, only some flew away, and the third time, they didn't even care to move, they were beating each other over the seeds, it was such a beautiful site to see for the eyes - i think i will redo the scenario soon and this time i will take my camera to immortalize the moment.

I always loved going places to feed the birds.I've been to lakes to feed the ducks, been to piers to feed the seagulls.I even went to a Fred Myer parking lot to feed the seagulls once with a loaf of bread.I sure had a lot of lookers. Some probably thought I was a little crazy. Its so much fun feeding the birds. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this. Hummingbirds do like the water. I've seen them "stealing" the spray from the sprinkler in my front yard. Other types of birds will walk around under the main water jet to get the spray bath also.
