are you an introvert or an extrovert?

There are two main categories of human personality: 1) Extroverts (or extraverts) are gregarious, assertive and generally seek out excitement. 2) Introverts, on the other hand, are more reserved, less outgoing and less sociable. source: wikipedia in which category do you belong? how can you say so?

hi.. i am both. i am part extrovert, specifically choleric and part introvert, specifically melancholic. choleric is a doer kind of person and melancholic is a thinker type of person. i know about personality types since i have a degree in psychology. how about you?

whoa, what a shocker! we have a psychologist in the house! (no offense meant) good for you. i am an introvert but i don't know the specifics. how about this: i am not a loner. i like recognition. but i am quite shy, i am not the type of person who would start a conversation with a stranger. where would you classify me with the specifics?

hehehe.. no offense taken. hmmm... question, why is it a shocker? hehehe... i think there are so many people here in mylot from various walks of life and of different occupations... hmmm.. to anwer your question. There are two kinds of extrovert: choleric (doer) and sanguine (talker) while introvert: melancholic (thinker) and phlegmatic (watcher/observer/follower). usually we categorize people by their 2 dominant personality type and all of us have a percent of this and that. sometimes, some traits of a certain personality won't be applicable to a certain person since we are all a mix of two-three or even personality types. a loner is typically a melancholic person. so you could be a sanguine since you like to be with people and like the limelight (or recognition). but you are quite shy, so you can be a mix with phlegmatic person, because they typically, don't start conversations and very careful with strangers, especially in establishing new relationships. i hope i am on the right track. i can more or less be accurate if i have more description of you...hehehe... but remember personality traits or personality in general is very dynamic. a psychological analysis of personality is valid for 6 months only since various factors like environment, circumstances, experiences (positive or negative), etc. affect us and could bring on change in us and the way we react and do things. hehehe...what do you think of all of thse?

this is all so interesting! (and by shocker i mean awesome, sorry i'm not smooth with my choice of words) yes, i guess you are on the right track. i consider my self more of an introvert. and specifically, a phlegmatic (i like the sound of it), i mostly observe than act. and maybe 10% sanguine, i'm not of a talker really, but i can be chatty when i am in the mood. and i rarely talk in public, more on personal chat. thank you for a very interesting response!

That is a very tough question, but I would have to say I used to be an Introvert because I used to be unsociable and I used to be more reserved, but now I am more of an extrovert because the friends I have made in the past couple years, have gotten me to more outgoing, and more prone to seek excitement, and definately more assertive and especially now that I am with my fiance, who I love with all my heart and soul, because now I am very sociable,or at least more so then I used to be.

Good for you and your fiance! Until now, I consider myself an introvert but I make my way out of being an introvert when needed to like if I have to do it because it is my work to do so. I think I also have become more sociable than before, but still I not the one who starts conversations or the host in a party.

I would say I am an introvert, since I like and enjoy my time being alone than with other people around. When there are socials in our office I try to shy away or more so I enjoy being left alone than joining the enjoyment of other people.

yeah that is the general feedback that I usually hear from them who do not understand my real personality. It is hard for me really to socialized although I do make some effort at times just to avoid those feedbacks but if I were given a chance I would prefer to be alone than with others.

I also enjoy most of the time being alone. but sometimes, I feel I need to reach out because people might think I am a snub, or they may think I don't like them. I just want to be polite so I sometimes join groups.

Hi richiem, hows your day, mine is fine. Wow thats a good information froem wikipedia and my first time to hear those words. My first time to know that I am an Introverts. It suites my personality and I just can't believe that I am like that person. I wish I'm an Extroverts because I believe extraverts don't waste any opportunity they have.

Hi friend, you're definitely right I agree with you... I have a good life right now and I have less problems. I beleive that people like us also have the best business in town. Business man will be successful when they are introverts but they need also extraverts people in the company just to balance the business.

Maybe extroverts have the ability to grab every opportunity that comes their way, but introverts like us have the advantage of having a stable life. I for instance prefer a job in the office which is more secure.

I have read my fiance's response to this and would have to agree. Before I met my friends I was introverted, and even after meeting them I found myself still a bit of an introvert. After High School, and even more so after meeting my fiance, have become an extrovert. That is not to say that I seek excitement, but I will not pass it by if it is offered to me. Have A Great day Richiem, Great Discussion!

My fiance hates crowds. I don't know how I even survived through a room of 936 people. I hate crowds too, but probably not as much as he does. I won't seek excitement unless I am with people I trust. The Day I met My Fiance, I let him and his friend take me somewhere, the next time we saw each other I was officially dating him, and I let him and this same friend take me to another county. Now I live in that county. I don't seek excitement that much, and I suppose the above example isn't real excitement, but it was in terms that it was dangerous. Have A Great Day!

I would love to seek excitement if given the opportunity, like going on a nature trip or something like that. But I would do it only with my friends and my girlfriend. It would be awkward to do it with one I don't know well. And sometimes I don't like too many people.

I am an Intuitive Extrovert. I found that out when I was headed to school and I was really late for our first class on that two subject day. When I arrived in class, I thought I'd be disrupting the whole class with my late arrival yet, to my surprise, the guidance counsilor was there and handing out papers to my classmates. I convenient took my seat as I tried to catch my breath. The paper had question which were simple to answer since it had the answers already provided, we only had to choose them. It was one of those personality tests that they give out to student on particular years. When the test was over and had our scores checked, mine yielded that I was an inuitive extrovert.

I think you are an introvert and you only reach out to people because you need to. I cannot be sure though. I am just guessing. I am most of the time like that, I just socialize when I need to.

i'm an ambivert. I do enjoy being in a group, socially interacting within but i also always find time to spend alone because i'm somewhat a thinker who enjoys writing more than speaking. I fall somewhere in between an introvert and an extrovert.

Me too, I like being with people I know and am acquainted with. I talk to them without fear or hesitation as I would have with a stranger or someone not more than an acquaintance. I talk a lot when I am with people whom I know will understand me if I make a mistake, who I know will not judge me outright.

I'm actually a mixture of both. In the past though I was a solid introvert. I do not really talk about how I feel, I was a man with few words. I probably got it from my dad. We don't really talk much unless it's necessary. Some even say that we aren't really sociable. Then I wanted to change that so recently, I've been interacting with others often. I m even more comfortable in sharing my thoughts with people. Although sometimes, I still feel the need to keep things for myself and when to hold back any thought or emotion. So I guess, it's still good to balance both sides.

I am also a solid introvert at first. But I feel the need to be a little more extrovert. So I think I am now 80% introvert and 20% extrovert. I think it is necessary to be a little extrovert when it comes to work. You need to interact more with your peers to get things done. But I still consider myself an introvert because I am still not comfortable on sharing my thoughts to people I don't deeply know. I only share my thoughts with friends and with my girlfriend.

I am introverted although I do like to go on-stage and entertain people, contradictory isn't it? I am so introverted that I would freeze in class if the teacher asked me a direct question, not that I do not know the answer but I was just so self-conscious. I have overcome these weaknesses and I do know now how to hold the attention of people when I am in a meeting.

good for you! i am also like you, i am an introvert but i like throwing jokes which makes me the center of the attention say inside a classroom. i don't like being on-stage though, but if it is required to be in there, i would love too. i hate the spotlight effect but i like the superstar effect, you know what i mean? i am still a little affected by this weakness.

Personally, it depends on the situation. If I'm meeting new people for the first time and/or am in a big group of strangers, then I would be an introvert. I am pretty shy and have a hard time thinking fast on my feet if I am meeting with relatively new people in my life. However, if I'm with a small group of people or with my close group of friends, then I become more extroverted. I talk and laugh a lot more and will initiate conversation confidently and freely. It just takes me a little while to warm up to people and become comfortable with them.
