Tattoos are not harmful, not by a long-shot! However, you must be very careful! They can be harmful if you get work done at a non-sterile shop (Hepatitis and whatnot), or if you get some horrible gothic type thing where it's very visible as this may effect your "hiring eligibility" down the road. I have seven tattoos, but most are small. My biggest is the beginnings of a 3/4 sleeve on my left arm, but that is far from finished. I got all my tattoos, mostly, because I just love tattoos. Simple. But two of them were to honor close friends that passed away. Without a doubt, the rib-cage!! - or anywhere with direct-BONE contact kills! I got some work done on my chest near the collar-bone and, holy cow, ouch! The closer he got to the clavicle.....ow! But it doesn't last forever, and it's totally worth it.

I have 7, and they are all influenced by my love for body art. I personally don't feel that they are harmful. Now I'm sure others would disagree, but in my opinion, i feels it's just an enhancement of your body. I'm working on a tribute tattoo for my father who passed away in 2003. I have heard the rib cage is the most painful place to get a tattoo. The one i have on my shoulder blade was the spot that bothered me the most. My wrist tattoo was the one that bothered me the least. All of my tattoos have some sort of meaning, and they all take me back in time to when i was getting it done. So they are like permanent memory reminders, which i find very cool!

Tattoos are harmful if they are ugly! Don't fall for a trend ie: the butterfly on the lower back. You must get something that means something to you. Don't think 'gee i want a tattoo..what should I get?' Instead think "gee this thing in my life means so much to me, I'd like to honour it by putting it on my body". Parts of your body where there are no fat hurt the most eg: spine. Oh, the upper inner arm hurts like hell too, that's where I have one of mine. I nearly passed out when I was getting it

I dont think they are harmful if you play it safe. I dont have one I am a big baby when it comes to pain. Also, I am too picky . If i get one i would have to be sure . Maybe get a small butterfly on small of my back or on my foot .

Actually it all depend on the place of tattoo. Upper arms, buttocks, thigh are the least painful areas for tattoos. On the other hands private parts of body, front foot, ankle, wrist are the most painful areas for tattooing. Neck, shoulder, back, upper back are less painful areas.
