Do attractive titles evoke more responses?

I see some threads receiving hundreds of responses. At one stage i even analyzed what is the secret behind them. Some of the title are long enough and some of them are so very ordinary, yet people respond a lot. So here are my doubts:
1) Is it the simplicity of the discussion that gets lots of response?
Or
2) Having a strong active friends and referrals increase the responsive rate?
3) Or, finally the attractive titles?
4) Do you find anything that which falls beyond these things?
Thanks a lot for coming up with your opinion.
Cheers.

Honestly, i look at the titles first and then down to the first parts of the discussion. If it interests me or I can relate to it or I feel that I have something to offer such as an advice, I'd go for it and answer to the best I can. Lately, I have posted some discussions which to me is kind of a question or I need some advice, and it earned lots of responses. I just post and no idea if it will take of or not..

Nope..You have not offended me. Infact you are hundred percent correct. Actually i gained an insight from your comment, that first lines of the topic must provide a good idea of what we are going to discuss.

O! this time i am lucky enough that the first part of the discussion and the title, attracted you to read more on my topic, because i always create a great confusion in me, in framing the titles for the posts that i have created.
so mostly, my topics get a handful of responses from a select friends here.
Any way thanks eihdra for sharing your honest opinions here.
Take care.

I hope I didn't offend you in any way. I found out from reading the other posts from the older veterans that the title part and the first few lines are the critical make or break in a discussion..and sometimes I see too that there are posts which titles are attractive but scroll down and they are beating around the bush...

Well I consider the attractiveness of the title a very important factor for you discussion becoming popular.. At least it may not matter in mylot much as almost every discussion in noticed.. But in places like digg where scores of topics a started every minute, it is a very crucial factor..
So to make your title attractive, try to keep it short and capitalize important words.. But, I can never say it will be a confirmed success as I'm not an expert psychologist!! That's what I do, its worked out pretty well so far..
Having many friends can also help..

I find the best titles to have are ones referring to mylot earnings.
Also, mysterious titles that don't really give away the content of the post.
I've noticed some people get really cheeky and use a title that suggests something entirely different to what the post is actually about... not that it doesn't apply to what the topic is about... but that it makes you think of something else.
Another one is when you ask a question.

You made a vaild point, certainly i have landed in some topics where the title totally misleads the subject that was discussed.

I wasn't really referring to ones where the title misleads. More like titles that have more than one possible meaning.
For example.... 'Are you a swinger?'
It's a title that could be used to ask whether you go on swings at the park... or could refer to a s*xual swinging.
I've used the trick myself. The thing is, on mylot you NEED a good title because that's the first thing people see. Make your title interesting and you'll get more people viewing the discussion and therefore more responses.

I think that people respond to discussions that are some what long, but short enough to be able to be read quickly,I also think that if someone has a high post count, and a high rating, and that if they have a lot of friends who have a high rating and a high post count, also make people want to look at discussions, and I think original titles also help to draw readers to a discussion.

People usually respond to discussions where they can answer, or know anything about the discussion.
They also respond if they have a meaning about the topic. I guess your amount of friends also help, since they can see the discussion their friends have started.

As for me, I believe that the topics that attract a relatively vast number of responses are those that catch the immediate attention of fellow myLoters. After all who would prefer to respond to a discussion of little or no interest.

Hihi.
I think you have made quite a good analysis here.
Discussions with any or more than 1 of those points tend to get more responses.
Keep going... but most importantly, do enjoy yourself in myLot! Cheers!!

Geez, you make me blush.
Btw I think you start great discussions. You must have become my "friend" after I stopped turning email notifications on.
However, I think you are neat and would like to turn notify on for you. I can't possibly find your nick in the unwieldy friend list though... if it pleases you, do you think you can find my nick in your list, delete it then send me another friend request? This way when I accept it, you will appear at the end of my list and I can turn on notify for you.
But if it is too much a bother, then don't bother. I am sure I will stumble upon your discussions again.

Actually, i am amazed to see all those comments. I don't know, how you managed it in a day. You must be having terrific typing skills, going at a high rate.
And, as of this topic, You are the MASTER. Certainly you know the secret..
Cheers friend, and Have fun.

Hello saivenkaat802003.
I must believe that it is building a base of friends that leads to receiving many responses on myLot. I do think the titles have something to do with it--either very common and "everyone" thinks, "I can answer than one really quickly" or interesting, which attracts people.
I have so few discussions that have received very many responses. I guess I haven't built the "friends" list up much and haven't thought of the right question yet. Take care.

As told by you, people tend to respond to topics that are more common in nature and those they think it is easy for them to write a few lines here. Often sensitive topics and those involving technical details do go either unnoticed or get a handful responses.
And i hope that when my friend PearlGrace, builds up the friends list, she will consider me. Waiting for the nod.
Take care Rita Chaney.

catchy titles do often elicit a lot of responses but
friends helps all of us a lot to garner responses.
also just being a quality discussion that is both'
interesting to read and easy to understand really
gets the responces.I think quality is the key here.

Sometimes it is the mood somebody is in, that prompts to respond to a discussion. A topic that looked uninterested one day may suddenly make us come out with ideas that sometimes surprises our own selves. I've responded to many discussions at a later time that once were left out for lack of interest.

Surely, mood plays a important role in mylotting. For the past few days, i am actively mylotting ,whereas some months back, i just spent time that is barely enough to read a handful of topics.
Hmmmm... one day ...i think you will respond my two unanswered topics... I pray god to give you good mood

In my experience the simplicity of the discussion draws more responses. But I refrain from too simple since it takes away the fun and depth.
Secondly a witty discussion will bring lengthy threads if you have a group of smart friends here.
Anyway the first place goes to the simple discussions only.

Love your title! It's what caught my attention. As far as the reasons why someone would respond, I think it has more to do with the actual discussion. The title gets the person to read the discussion. And, if the discussion is short and too the point and not complicated, then the person responding will want to respond.
Many people on MyLot are just looking to respond quickly and not do brainwork, so they can pick up their pennies per post and move on. It's not rocket science. This post was easy to respond to. Because it called for personal opinion. Thanks for the discussion!

Thanks beautyqueen, as you liked my title.
What you have said is absolutely correct, there are times when i raise some technical points as threads, hoping that it will get cleared, hmmm... it won't get noticed.. but cases like, to say an example, " My cat drank Milk" will get huge response.
By this i don't try to denounce anyone, but only expressing my observation here.

Hi saivenkaat802003! I think that the reason behind is that first, the title is catchy/attractive that is why you got the attention of the prospective respondents, and then when they read about it, the topic is interesting or have hit home personally, or maybe you just have a lot of friends who loves you and supports you and that includes me my friend!
Take care and God bless you forever my friend!

I rather think it is a combination of all those things which makes the best discussions, but sometimes a very basic question gets a lot of responses. I suppose a simple question that anyone can answer will get more than an interesting debate about issues which do not concern a lot of people.
I would rather discuss serious issues and not answer a one line question, but that is my personal preference and other people will like a shorter discussion topic.
The discussions which earn most money are the ones which are most interactive and have lots of long responses and comments on responses and comments on comments to responses. A discussions with 50 one line responses and no comments will earn much less.

I don't think it's all in the titles. I love making creative titles. But I have one discussion sitting there with my spiffy title and no comments. The same day, someone else posted something about the same topic and got at least 2 dozen comments. Well, go figure. I guess some of it has to do with how well known you are here and how many friends you have. I've seen some comment that they don't accept friendship requests until someone has 500 posts. Come on, folks. I have over 350.

Quite interesting, Kenzie. In fact, i have experienced it a number of occasions.
And all these factors, made me inconclusive of what prompts one in getting a avalanche of responses to one topic, whereas it is not for the other, made me to start this thread.

I have a gut feeling that having friends would include to the factor of being responded more. Attractive titles play a great role for having more response. The title itself must already say or imply what the post is all about. The first lines also should immediately elaborate further since the first lines are read below the title. If the titles are understandle and people have ideas on such topic, you sure will have a hit.

Correct you are, but all those that we to convey in a topic can't be expressed in a title. So, as you said the first lines of a topic, must necessarily have a strong emphasis.
