I accept every art form as art. Even if I don't understand it or don't like it , to me it is art. My favorite, can you guess by my avatar, is music. It is the art form that moves me the most.My second is Van Gogh paintings.Their colors are so bold and they move me. What do you consider art?

Hi! Well you actually described one of the things that I consider art. That is things that inspires you to do more great things. Im not as giving as you though. I dont consider everything art but I guess I should since everything has their own dynamics. But for me and as the way I see it I think that art is the way you look at things and be able to see in different perspective even without the personal opinions of others and without biases. Art can also be things that are made from sratch or inconspicuous materials that are presented in a manner that people never would have thought possible that they can see it that way. I guess the last and highest thing that I regard as art is seeing the beauty out of everything that is perceived to be ugly. Those are the things I consider art. I might not practice all of these things but for me that is the definition of art as how I understand it.^_^

I keep my definition of art wide open because there are many things I wouldn't get or understand and others would be moved.

Yep, thats part of it too. I dont mean that my definition of art has to apply to me. Like you said you are open because you might not understand others thoughts and perspectives. Thats kinda the same for me. I dont have to understand the art form itself, I just have to see and feel that that kind of art form inspires people in ways that I might not/never understand. Thats still art for me but one that does not apply to me.

I am really into art. I have studied art history and I enjoy looking at paintings, sculpture, drawings, print and art installations. I also love the art of writing and I appreciate well-written literature. Music is a wonderful art too but I am more into the visual arts. Architecture is another art form which some people may not consider but I like looking at different building styles. I am particularly fond of Victorian houses and medieval churches. I admire some modern buildings too.

You can't tell from this picture but there is a hill from where you can really see them. I hope you can get there and see them in person.

art is not decided personally it is a standard, otherwise people can say van gogh is not art etc, we can like or not like forms of art but we don't personally decide what is art.

the art experts, picasso is art whether you like it or not, stuff you find in an art museum is art whether you like it or not, there are standards for art which usually broadly stated means creativity just like there are standards in what is history, what is medicine what is science etc. If you take a basic art course in a university they will teach you the standards, also try painting something for example as a beginner and try to sell it and see how fast people will say no, it doesn't qualify it is not good enough, etc, then you will see that there is a standard.

What I am saying is Everyone is an art expert. You don't have to take a class or even go to a museum. Art is everywhere and is everything. because all it has to bto be considered art is move One person. If one person, learned or not, finds beauty in it, then it is art. True it may not move everyone but it doesn't have to.

I don't believe there is a standard in art. What one man may find as a great piece of art another may find unremarkable.Who is to say this is art and you Must see it as such or this isn't art so you must dismiss it?

Anything that has no formula is an art for me. A subject that has no specific explanation. It can be interpreted in so many ways and there is no right or wrong answers to it. I have been always fascinated with culinary art, the art of questioning, the art of photography, architectural designs, cultural shows like dancing and drama, poetry, and of course music either singing, playing an instrument or merely listening to it.

Hello sarahruthbeth!:-) I consider everything as art where anything crosses from mundane occurrence/happening/reality to one of excellence. Where mind finds connection and is synchronized with heart and soul. Where different faculties get together to produce a masterpiece. So, for me, it can be as simple a thing as walking or smiling, when it comes from deep inside the heart, to more formal arts that we know. Like you, I may not understand an art, but I appreciate them usually. Whatever brings the best out of someone.

Then I must add Hockey to an art form I love. You just described a goal I saw in The NHL playoffs last night. The timing, the skill and a little luck came together and The Red Wings scored. It was beauty in motion. Now I know that many wouldn't see or understand it but it moved me.

I understand sarah, I like not only watching but playing many games. I know that there are moments in a game where everything just fits together and a masterpiece takes birth. I do call it art, and usually when I comment about such goals, service, hit, stroke and such, I do sometimes use the words..."What a piece of art it was!"

Our garden is our artist's canvas - When we moved into our current house the backyard was plain with nothing in it. My hubby and I saw it like an artist's canvas...and we used flowers to create images to our liking.
From my perspective there are many forms of art...including 'the art of living.' Art and inspiration seem synonymous to me as well. Some forms of art like singing, music, paintings, sculpture are more inspiring to me than others. I think gardening can be a form of artistry. When I look at the photos of our gardens before David and I used them as our 'earth canvas.' They untouched yard was like a a blank slate and we co-created our it into a reflection of who we are and what we love. I have included a photo of our colorful flower "canvas." I think interior designing is an art form as well and I feel our home and many others I have been in have artistry to them. In our case every nook and cranny has something of meaning and spiritual significance to us and people have told us that our space is so unique that we should sell tickets and allow people to tour it. Nice compliment...but we think not. In my view children who make purple trees rather than green in their drawings show their artistic flair...as do those who capture images through a different lens in what they photograph portray art to me. I also think our Creator and Mother Nature create art every day in large and small way and are extremely inspiring. Everywhere we look in the natural world there is magnificent art and true artistry...from the Autumn splendor of changing leaves to the magnificent sunrises and sunsets...ah yes, isn't art grand! I could go on and on...but that is enough for now. I like this discussion Sarah...and thanks for posting it. Raia
