I travel quite often, sometimes abroad. I do keep in touch with my family , by phone whenever possible , and by emails atleast, every day. That's the good thing about laptops and wireless internet access !

I guess chatting is one way that families and loved ones who are separated by geography can be close together again even if only for a short time. Yahoo Chat is very good and you can see your loved ones and chat with them on camera and they can hear you even when they are too little to write or type.

My sister lives an hour away. We try to use Instant Messenger daily if possible. We like to play with the smileys and stuff...we get a kick out of it. We even IM'ed when we lived in the same town. My parents live an hour away, too. Hmmmm....I wonder if they would be interested in downloading one of the IM services. We would be able to keep in touch in real time once in awhile and not have to talk on the phone. My 2 daughters live in the same town. We will IM once in awhile. We can call each other more easily than the long distance calling I would have to do calling my sis and parents. I have some friends on my IM list that I keep in contact with. One lives in town here, too. I find it is so much easier to communicate with him on IM because he is deaf and I still don't understand him very well with some signing that he does and when he speaks.

I like to try to chat to keep up with family members and also friends who live far away. My husband just recently returned after about 14 months overseas, so I chatted with him as often as I could during that time to keep communication going. It wasn't easy with the different schedules and time difference, but it was a really convenient way of keeping in touch while he was away. I am really thankful to have chatting as another way of communicating! I don't chat very much now though, since he is home.

I live 1600 miles from most of my family including my youngest daughter, my oldest lives 300 miles away. I normally talk to my mom and sister a couple of times a week, I call my youngest daughter every couple of days, just to see how she is and what's going on. I talk to my oldest daughter almost everyday, she either calls me or I call her or we chat online. We also keep in touch through emails and regular mail, and I send pictures to my mom and dad all the time, and they send me pics too.
