What are your views on this report I read in The Mail.British child benefit paid to foreign children living abroad up to £33million. Most of this is going to 36,000 children still living in Poland. There parents are cashing in on European rules that let them claim benefits in the UK after working and paying taxes for a year. It is £977 a year for the first child, £652 for young siblings-as apposed to £160 for each child in Poland? It is no wonder we have so many Polish living here?

If all EC countries had identical economies and incomes then this wouldn't be so bad. But of course they don't. I find the whole thing distasteful and yet another example of Britain being sold down the river by our pathetic Government. I have to say, my feelings are quite draconian on this. I used to advocate embracing multi-culturalism, but there is no such thing. Immigrants gather in ghettos and resist integration. Brits do it too when we go overseas. I don't believe that any migrant to any EC country should be entitled to any benefits whatsoever until they have paid taxes to their host nation for at least two full years. Those benefits stay with them when whilst they live here and should be removed if they leave. Accompanying children may only receive Child Benefit whilst they are resident here too. If they are still back in the country of origin, then no payments should be made, nor entitled. I don't have any problems with itinerant workers generally, so long as they pay their taxes etc. But we have allowed ourselves to be swamped with them. I am reminded of the comments of a taxi driver taking me to Jersey Airport a year or so ago. He was Portuguese and had worked on Jersey for about ten years. Many Portuguese had come and undercut the local taxi drivers. He was worried that East Europeans were now coming in and undercutting him. He didn't see the irony of his comments at all.

I agree with all you say! The government has let us down far to many imagrants for a small country like Britain. There is less work and homes, There are more students in schools and they have to have interpiters. Where will it all end? A great response. you get the pencil?
