Is this just all a big conspiracy?

Gas prices are climbing. In past years it has become harder for big oil companies to get the permission to drill and destroy nature. Alaska comes to mind where after many years of back and forth the option to drill into a known oil field there was pretty much off the table before the enormous gas price hikes began. The gas price hikes are explained with high demand and low supply. Meanwhile big oil is raking in record profits but they claim they struggle to keep up with the high demand and buying and refining oil is soooo expensive. Therefore they have to charge higher and higher prices at the pump. Something just doesn't add up. Now petitions are circulated for citizens to sign as a way to pressure the government to give out drilling permits to tap American oil resources. Taking everything into consideration are the high prices we pay right now just a big conspiracy among the big oil companies to finally get the drilling permits that have been denied to them in the past?

I don't see the question I responded to but it was about the same thing you are writing about. I don't think the answer went through. It said some thing about my not using the preview response and wanted new information about me and a new password. I did not understand why I had to use the preview response because I said what I had to say then went to ABC Check to make sure the spelling was correct.

i think it is all politics and this war that has messed up the gas prices.

I was watching a show yesterday about the concept of limited oil supplies and how the Saudi oil fields are almost tapped out (which makes me think: what are they going to do when they have no income from oil any more?) and it is getting harder and harder to find new sources. I hear you about record profits too. Listen, I am not a big fan of the oil companies or even the idea that they are also battle other coutries for supplies. Let's take the equation from them and abandon oil altogether! Ride our bikes, use solar panels to recharge our cars, etc. They want to play the oil game...well, I for one am thinking of a way to walk away from the game! Let them play with someone else.

I think the reason why the US doesn't drill its OWN oil is because this is resource is also a strategic one and not merely economic. The US gov't will put-off drilling oil from its own land until it really has to, and if it gives advantage over other countries. :)
