i think so. it's extremely dangerous. You know what happened with Galileo Galilei who told the truth about heliocentric, which was opposite to church's opinion (geocentric), which was literally based on the bible. what do you think?

I dont find much in the bible that isnt a parable or a metaphor. In fact most of what written is after the fact but everyone not only in the religious world but in the scientific world looks for it to be an interpreted literally. I believe this is a common mistake of most religions.

I think its exceedingly dangeorous to interpret the Bible or any other holy text for that matter in a litteral way. Yes, we all know the argument that the Bible is supposed to be the word of God and arguing with God is supposed to be a major sin. However, we have to remember that there was a Spirit behind the Bible as well as the words of the Bible. Perhaps it's just me, but when we read, we should try and understand what we are reading. This is particularly true of religious text, which are supposed to be instructions from the devine. I think most rational people will argue that there is a devine being out there, but he or she speaks softly and thourghly through signs rather than through direct litteral meanings from the good book. I'm not sure how much understanding of the devine people get when they just take things at the face value. They see every word of the Bible but don't want to explore the deeper meanings behind those words. It may just be me, but I don't think that's following God. It's being lazy. I think if you want to find God through reading the Bible, it should take time, it should take effort to find a deeper meaning and understanding.

thx iftikharsumn for responding . i agree with that. i think all scripture by nature are not like historical works. we cannot accept the event in the scriptures as the real facts.

I definately think that taking the bible to be literal is dangerous...whether its the whole bible or even just parts of it...the end result is IMO never going to be a good one...As far as I'm concerned the bible should only be used as a guideline for decent living and nothing more...Histoy has actually proven time and time again that takign the bible literally is dangerous..why ppl arent cluing in is beyond me.

yes, you're right that the bible should only be used as a guideline for decent living. we can't treat it as a historical work, we can't consider that every event written in the bible is the real one. thx for responding :)
