A wonderful lady television presenter in the UK has recently lost four or five stones in weight. She initially said that it was due to exercise and healthy eating, but it turns out that she has had a gastric band fitted.A drastic stage to take, but she says it is working for her.How far would you be prepeared to go in a bid to lose excess weight???

I really don't know why I bother switching notifications on when I am not notified that you have started a new discussion. As a result I am several cream cakes and countless biscuits fatter than when this discussion was first aired. I don't much mind what Fern Britten does, although I thought that she was a good reminder that it isn't only anorexic stick insects that can get on TV these days. I have tried to lose weight over the years. Now it is very half hearted. In my late teens I genuinely was very toned and muscular. I was a keen oarsman and trained 7 days a week. However, since then it has all been downhill. I have trained, dieted, even starved (for a whole half day) but nothing seems to work. So I now accept that it is not wise to walk past maternity hospitals in case they rush me in and try to induce my clearly late baby! My man boobs really do need a bra, conical or not, to accommodate them and when I jump there is a short lag whilst my skin catches up. With that happy image I shall leave you.

I will go for any healthy way and will not take any risk to destroy myself just to lose weight!

Thats true Che..here I go up and down like a yoyo, but whatever I have lost I will gain again at some point..im just one of those who is meant to be slghtly heavier in build I think...but often when ive been lighter I havent felt as good in myself,so its a catch 22 situation.

Fortunately I'm not too much fat but I think I'd do everything it's necessary to protect my health.I mean that I 'd put also a gastric band if necessary to lose weigh and feel better.

If Tazmanian devils come in multiple births then I would be your twinny....maybe not ientical...but very alike. But a cream bun to me is Robbie Williams to others...mind you thinking about it...Robbies was some guy in his hey day..but then he likes his grub too by the looks of it.

Based on what I have learned about myself from years of thinking about/trying to loose weight, I quit the trying a long, long time ago. I still think about loosing my excess weight, and I periodically dance with the idea of going on a diet again. But the dance is very brief. I know I won't start on any weight loss regime until I know I will keep the weight off once it is gone.
To lose pounds and then to regain all those pounds plus the friends they picked up on the way back ... it was just so hard mentally/emotionally. The whole process of loose/gain/loose/gain/gain just compounded the underlying reasons why I am overweight to begin with. And each regain added to my "beat-myself-up-because-I-failed-again" list.
My opinion: Unless the weight situation is immediately lift threating, to go through some of these drastic measures to loose weight without addressing why the excess weight is there ... seems like a recipe for disaster (or at least an opportunity for "weight with friends" to return).

I think you have a really good point there....ive been slimmer and heavier...and each time ive been slimmer ive always regained the weight.Im not too worried now..the main thing is I feel reasonably well at the moment ..which is good enough ...unless the weight is seriously affecting your health then it somehow seems selfish to worry about it for the sake of vanity.
