Well thanks for passing this along.
There are so many things that are good for us but will harm a pet!!
Did you know that garlic is potentially a killer to dogs? I have heard so many say give your dog garlic to stop fleas. It doesn't work and it could harm the dog. I was watching a show and this lady told that garlic bulbs have a bacteria or virus that can grow in them. You might give your dog 50 bulbs and nothing happen but them if you get one with that in it, the dog will get very sick and possibly die from it.
Letting your dog swim in ponds is not a good idea either. The scum is a potential killer. (I had a blog with the letter on that one, if someone doesn't believe it, I could find it, but it might take a long time. lol!) I never let my dog in water I wouldn't swim in!

I had no idea about this one Wee. I think my dog must have an iron stomach, there have been times in her life she has gotten into all kinds of things that I have read are harmful to dogs, only to not have it bother her at all. I still try and watch what the kids might be offering her, but you know what it is like to watch kids and animals together LMAO... Thank you for this information.

No, I never let my dogs eat nuts. They're extremely poisonous. You should always research foods that are dangerous for your pet when you first get them to avoid incidents like this. Obviously sometimes you drop something and it's been snapped up before you know it, but still...

There are many things that we eat that are poisonous to dogs, Also add cashew nuts, grapes and onions to the list. But dogs seem to eat things regardless as to whether they are good for them and nuts are one item they seem to really enjoy. My German shepherd used to dig through the bags of gardening refuse when I was doing landscaping to get the walnuts that we had raked up in peoples yards. She loved them. But if she ate to many she would get sick.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll let my parents know as they still have their farm dog and he lives inside with them...My Mom loves nuts and so it is important that I tell them!
I wonder is it just macadamians or are other nuts toxic!?
I know that my late Grandfather used to feed his dogs peanuts all the time and they never harmed the dog....
Thanks again dear friend!

Oh thank you for informing me. Suddenly i began thinking if my dog likes to eat nuts, because I remember everytime they smell the fried nut we have at home, they come to us and ask for it. I don't remember if i gave some. Do you mind if i copy the link and spread this?

Hi weemam! Oh, I never knew that. I do love macadamian nuts especially the chocolate covered ones. haha.. I think if ever, I will have another bag of those macadamian nuts, I will be very careful not to let even just one nut to fall on the floor. I am just wondering though if it is only with the macadamian nuts the dogs are getting ill or poisoned? Thanks for sharing this information my friend. I really appreciate it.
Take care and God bless!

Luckily, with 3 dogs in the house, we're not big nut eaters. Is it just macadamias or is it any type of nut? Thanks for the heads up! It's amazing what kinds of human food are very bad for animals, especially dogs.

I'm glad you posted this discussion weemam, because a lot of people don't know that nuts are poisonous to dogs, so I hope it gets read by lots of people here. Was your friend's little puppy ok?
Another thing not to give our dogs is onions - in any shape or form. A friend of mine gave his tiny chihauhua some pizza that had onions on it, and the dog became lethargic, developed breathing difficulties and became disoriented. He had to take it to the vet for treatment.
Chocolate is another bad thing to give your dog, but it can be deadly.

I read about that in a pet magazine a few years ago. We have a dog too and we never let him eat any kind of nuts because they have a certain negative effect on dogs that make them sick. So as much as possible we keep the nuts away from our dog.

I never give my dogs macadamia nuts. They are my ultimate favorite nut and I won't share with anyone! No, not even my dogs. I guess I'm glad about that now! I know they can't eat onions or chocolate, but macadamia nuts is news to me. Thanks so much for sharing!
