Any tips to become a better singer?

I like to sing and am an average singer, but I would like to improve.
Anyone have any tips on how I can improve my singing on my own?

Singing is really a great hobby. it releases tension and it attracts people. remember ariel in little mermaid? 
in any case, singing is a skill. and it can be developed through constant practice. grab a mic, a radio, and a song to perfect. after that, move to the next... until such time you were able to get the melody.

have you tried vocals classes or signing classes, they often can help you improve with different techniques. good luck
