A question for "dog people"

I guess I would consider myself a "cat person." I have had cats ever since I was little and I just love them. I like dogs, too, and have had a few over the years, but I just prefer cats. Probably because I don't have to take them out to go to the bathroom...
So, my question is for those of you who consider yourself a "dog person," why do you like dogs so much? Do you like cats as well?I've found that usually when I meet a dog person they hate cats. I don't know if this is the norm or not.

Im very much a dog person always have been, but I love cats too, just love how dependent dogs are on us while still retaining that bit of independence. I just love them and am so lucky to work with them all day and then come home to my own dog. They give us so much and ask for so little back.

I love all animals (bar spiders, eugh), but i'm definitely more of a dog person. I share my love of animals with my dad, but he isn't a fan of cats so I was never allowed to have one growing up. My mother isn't an animal person at all but she really doesn't like cats. My dad's mom and my mom's dad had cats when my parents were growing up and apparently they were actually evil.
I have my own dog now. I love dogs because they're so loyal and affectionate and always wanting to interact with you. Even my mom likes my dog.
My sister (-in-law) got a kitten on Tuesday and she's adorable. My mom hates it lol.

Im not a cat person. Will never own a cat...I've found that cats have an odd odor to me. I mean I know that dogs have a smell to them as well...even if they are clean. But cats give off a weird odor that I just dont find pleasant. They also tend to scratch things up, and climb all over everything. I dont like that. We have a dog right now that we've had for a couple of months. I love the fact that he is always there. He makes the kids a great companion where as a cat...will just sit there....Kind of boring...lol And he makes me feel safe. Like the other night my husband was gone and it was storming, the wind caught the door and slammed it against the house. Jake (dog) went off thinking that someone was trying to get in. He barked, growled and woke me up...when I finally got him calmed down he stayed by the kids for the rest of the night.

I am a dog person but I don't hate cats. I don't ever want to have one as a pet though. I don't like the idea of them climbing on countertops and pretty much going anywhere they want in my home.
All of the dogs I've ever owned have been very sensitive to my moods... wanting to protect me when I'm scared, make me happy when I'm down, and just be there by me when I need to be left alone. They are always happy, happy, happy to see me when I get home and right there to great me. Loyalty!! They want to be our companion and true friend.
I own a home and have a fenced in backyard, so my dogs go outside and tend to business on their own. Pooper scooping is a small price to pay for the love and friendship I get from my dogs.

I love dogs because they're playful and interactive. They run around and bark and play with you. The don't just sit and purr, that's why I prefer dogs over cats. Plus, dogs are really really really CUTE.

I would qualify myself as a dog person. i absolutely love animals. i dont HATE cats, my problem is when i was younger i was attacked by my aunts cat, since then i have been afraid of cats, i am quite partial to fat cats that dont really move... cats that walk around and i know are skinny enough to jump... im afraid of. hahaha. i consider myself a dog person because i feel that if i were to pick a cat or a dog i would say that dogs are more,... "human like"?? that make sense right?? im not sure why, my family are VERY big dog people.. ive only had 3 little dogs in my family, but my aunt had 9 chows on a big piece of land in WV. this i believe is where i found my love for dogs. i give pride in the fact that i can teach and train my animal to stay, do agility and participate in dogs shows if i would like to. i love dogs because they seem to be very obediant, i worked at a kennel over the summer a couple years ago, and i love that you have a choice to train your animal in a variety of different languages. i was working as clean kennels, washing dogs and walking and playing dogs... and i would have to walk these dogs and learn there commands in german, french, italian, spanish english.. and more! there are many reasons why i love dogs. i do know what you mean when you say that most dog people do not liek cats, i think that in most cases its either dogs or cats, but i would deffinately have to say i am partial to dogs.

I am a dog person. I love how affectionate and lovable they are and how they always seem happy when you walk in the door. I've only had 1-2 cats as pets and never had them very long, but I like cats also, I am just not a cat person.

To me a dog seems smarter. They act like they understand your words better than a cat.A cat to me doesn't act like they understand you when you talk to them.

We have 3 cats and one dog. I Love both. Cats are so cool and beautiful. Seems I only see 2 of them when its time to eat though. lol Dogs are more of a companion, and they seem to understand more (although I think its just the cats arrogance that makes it look like they don't) Unless my dog is sleeping under my bed, he has to be at my side, my feet, or on my lap constantly. Sometimes this is a pain, but I know he loves me! Cats and dogs are so different, which is probably why some people prefer one over the other. I had a great dog growing up and never particularly liked cats, but when I was just married, way back when, we found a stray kitten who fit in the palm of my hand! It was love at first sight. She turned out to be a very tough little cat, but we loved her anyway. I like having both around. By the way, our youngest cat and our dog, are best buddies! The older cats want nothing to do with either of them. lol

I'm a dog person. When I was a kid, we never had any cats, just dogs. The only cats I was ever around were my Grandmother's and they didn't like people. One kid I knew had a cat in his neighborhood that sat in the tree and waited for kids to come by after school to pounce on them from above. I couldn't see why anyone wanted cats.
Then when my son was about 10, we (his dad, my ex, our son and I) lived on an acre in central Florida. A mama stray cat left her two babies under our house. They ended up being wild too. We called them Hissy Cat and Pretty Kitty. Both cats had babies on our roof almost the same day. Hissy Cat abandoned them. Pretty Kitty allowed us to take them all down from the roof and into the house. She came into feed them, then left. One of our dogs also nursed the kitties, since there were too many for one mama.
One of those kittens became my son's best buddy. Azriel was an awesome cat, and I changed my feelings about cats.
Three years ago, I got married again to a man who had only one cat. She had a stroke shortly after we married. Today, we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They're all different. Have different personalities.
I'm still a dog person. The reason? Well, dogs look at you like you're a god. They think you can do anything.
Cats? They think they're in charge. Even the friendliest cat can be...stuck up at times, standoffish and totally independent. They need you on their schedule. (And will let you know it!)

I love cats and dogs. I think that most dogs are more friendly. I discovered this in the past 4 years after putting my cat down she was with me over 16 years. I have had three cats, and just got two kittens. All of the adult cats that I have adopted have been very mean. The last one even attacked my dogs and we had to get rid of her. My first cat that was with me for so long was so loving. She would come the second you called her, sit on my lap and lick my face. Needless to say since this cat none have compared.
With my dog, I don't even have to call him he just comes to see if I want to pet him. He licks my face even though I don't want him to do it. And yes my 80 pound yellow lab trys to sit to sit on my lap, I call him my pocket dog.

I don't hate cats, only prefer dogs. It's because my dogs rely on me in order to live. They need me to feed them, bathe them and play with them. And they give me unconditional love. You really can't beat the feeling when you get home and your dogs are impatiently waiting for you on the front porch, wagging their tails, as if they haven't seen you in years.
I can't get that feeling from cats. Granted, cats are cute and quite easy to care for. I don't know. Maybe "dog people" don't like cats because cats are too independent and never beg for affection.

I am not a dog person...well yea I am but I'm more of an "animal person" LOL....I have dogs and cats and love both very much...dogs are fun and great friends and cats are comforting....I'd also like to have birds, fish, a dolphin, a bear, a panther, a snake, a monkey, and emu (just cause I like saying Emu..I would name him Boris LOL) and more cats and dogs

I'm an animal lover so i love all.
but I prefer owning dogs. I like cats and have owned them in the past and will probably own one in the future.. but the reason why i like dogs more is because they are more buddy buddy i guess. They depend on you more then a cat and they are almost like having a child! lol
you can't really play with a cat like you can a dog and you can't really take them around with you like you could a dog as well..

Im a dog lover...but i don't really like cats. i tolerate their existence but thats about it. cats are prissy. they act like they own you and not the other way around. they don't care if your doing something or not, they want attention they are going to get it anyway they can even if it means getting in the way. and they don't stop. you tell them to go lay down and they're like...who the heck are you to tell me what to do. and they just continue with what they are doing.
Dogs on the other hand are loyal. they do what you say for the most part because they can be trained to do so. they don't act like they own you. unlike cats, dogs are loyal to the person that owns them and they fiercely protect them. what do cats do? sit there and look at you like..."i don't know you. oh well". Dogs are like "your in my house uninvited...what the hell? get out now" and they act on it. dogs are proactive, cats are just kind of there and thats about it. dogs rule.

well molly...i guess i dont have to say it, but i'm still gonna say it- im a big time doggie lover! and as you already assumed i dont really like cats.although i must say, i dont hate them.when i see one i would appreciate how pretty it is,but i dont know i just wouldn't want one as a pet.
but when it comes to dogs-i go crazy! of course i like to get them when their very young so that i can see them grow and observe all the little clumsy and just outright funny movements they do from time to time.to me personally, they become my baby,so i cherish every moment of every day with them.i talk to them as i would to a baby or a person.i cuddle them(in my case its a bit tough to cuddle them caz they're big-i like big dogs)and i guess i spoil them a bit...the thing is they are a true companion when you feel pretty much in the dump,or lonely or whatever-the thing is they are there for you.they can perceive how you feel and just want to comfort you.
i better shut up now else i will go on and on-which i surely can, believe me! i just love my dogs so very much!there arent words enough to describe it.
but thats just me. i guess everyones different.maybe you feel the same for your cats?! but as for me im a big time dog lover like i said-caz to me they really and truly are the best companion one could wish for!if you feel for your cats the same way...then hey, thats cool.like i said everyone has different likes thats why there are all kinds a different pets.else there would only be dogs in the world!! lol.
