Do You Keep Your Car Long or Trade-In Often?

I usually turn my cars over every 3 years or so. But I think I will try to drive the one I have now into the ground. I always seem to get the new car bug every 3 years though....

My partner is like that. LOL When the car is almost paid off, he wants to trade for a new one. Knowing that he is like that, I used to encourage him to just do a lease. That way when the lease is up, he could just trade it in for another or when he was really ready and liked what he had, he would have the option to buy. But after soooooo many years, I finally talked him into buying and keeping a car. It was getting frustrating because he would turn in cars that I really liked. Funnest thig is, he purchased something I hated! LOL Now he is stuck with it until the second car is paid off. LOL

LOL! Careful what you wish for Tia! You just might get it! Why does he get to have all the fun. You should pick out the next one. What does a family of 7 kids drive around in anyway? Has your entire family ever all been in one car at the same time?

Don't you hate it when you have a good response typed, press preview, it doesn't load, and what you wrote it gone? Then you have to remember what you wrote!OK, quick version: I am the one that drove cross country by myself with all 7 kids. Not easy! Lots of patience. Wild. Crazy. Load. Puking. And over all...fun. I had a blast with them. Do that all fit? If a couple little ones share a seat belt. But we don't go out that often as a family. Even then, we strap someone to the luggage rack. LOL What do I drive? I usually keep mine for 5 or more years. Because of that, I haven't owned many cars, but I do feel like I have gotten my money's worth. So far (knock on wood) I have been pretty lucky and I haven't ended up with any lemons, too.

There is something to be said about not having a car payment. The last car I paid off cost me about $300 a month. So it was great when I paid it off, like giving myself $300 a month! But then I bought a new one about a year and a half later.

I buy one for cash, drive it 4-6 months, and then want something different. I sell what I have, then go shopping for something else I am currently trying to sell the car I have now, and get something newer
