Lately I've been giving a lot of thought to installing a swamp style cooler at my home. With fuel prices driving energy prices even higher my electric bill has hit 6oo doilars some months.
For those not aware a Swamp cooler works like a misting fan. As the mist evaporates it cools the surrounding air by up to 30 degrees. It's popular in the drier states because it releases a lot of humidity as it evaporates. In Florida where I live the cooling benefits are not as noticeable because of the high humidity.
I just read an article about a 2 stage Swamp cooler that works by pre-chilling the air before it reaches the mister. The benefits are cooler air and lower humidity making the system work well in humid areas. It's reported it shaves up to 60 to 70 percent of the cooling costs consumed by normal A/C
Has anyone installed one of these systems and if so how is it working for you?
